I took GMAT today Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

Some of you may remember that I've been considering moving to Rochester because hubby got an offer to work on UR around last Christmas. I thought that this would give me an opportunity to go back to school, so I've been studying GMAT ever since. I worked hard this one and half month and all my hard work finally paid off this morning when I wrote the test. Guess how much I scored?

How come they never inform me about these things? I don't think I volunteered for any mad experiment your husband has in mind.

Heh heh. Well if you wrote the test then you should've gotten everything right?

You seem to be fairly pleased with yourself so I imagine you did pretty well. Congrats.

What a nice coincident isn't it? University of Rochester it is. (And I guess that "on" should be "at", or "in", or something. )

800. There are three parts. Critical writing is scored separately from the others. It ranges from 1-6, and is scored by human so I won't get the score until two weeks later. The math and verbal part is scored by the Computer Adaptive Test engine so the scores are reported right after the test.

Oh about the term of "writing" a test, I just leaned this not too long ago. It seems like writing a test means taking the test, somehow. It beats me why it is said this way too.

Yes the score is curved. And I appreciate that you have such confidence in me. I have actually not even heard of one person who's got an 800. But yes, it is not impossible, definitely.

I am disappointed. Your target should be getting an 800 in GMAT. With your background that should be a piece of cake for you. Now get back to more studying.

Which is the GMAT?

I know that the LSAT is for lawyers/criminals (what's the difference?).

Carrots

Well, I got math 51 (full score) at 99 percentile (there is no 100 percentile), verbal 47 at 99 percentile (probably 3 or 4 wrong answers), and overall 780 out of 800, 99 percentile.

I am very happy. It doesn't matter whether it would lead to anything real. At least I've proved to myself that I can do anything if I really wanted to, and I can do it as good as anybody.

And I don't want a 800. I'm never a perfectionist. It is not real. The real perfection is the perfection with a little crack in it.

GMAT is for business school, as GRE is for the engineering schools and such.

So?

Not to be mean.

I got the BS in Chemical Engineering because I thought that was the hardest major I could take (anyone got a better one let me know)... I did that. I figured then, hell I got the degree I'll do the deed and got the job. Took me 2 years to do so. I've raised the bar since. Still, I am not happy with my life. I did what I wanted to because of a challenge to myself. The big question I forgot to ask was; what do I want out of my life, "WHAT DO I WANT?"

I still don't know.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Yes, you are very right, Japher. Each and everyone of us are searching for that very reason of life. What do I want from life? Some thinks that he/she knows what it is, only to find out later that he/she didn't really know.

I'm different from a lot of people, I think. I take whatever life gives me with gratitude. I do not ask for what I can't get. And I'm happy with what I already got. But if I get a chance, I will try my best to catch it. What drives me in my life is not ambitions, like many of you. What drives me is my curiosity for the world and my thirsty about different tastes of life.

Life is a collection of each and everyday. Taking a test may not mean anything. But you write your life book with each and every step you walk. Life is hard and complicated. But I will take it one step at a time.

That's great, Snowflake! I know how you feel when you get that close. It's tempting to think about retaking it, but I just remember all stress of worrying about taking it the first time to keep myself from doing it again. Congrats!

Great score - certainly better than I did. Actually, I can't remember my score, but I'm pretty sure I was around the 95th or 96th percentile. And from what I could tell, no one seems to care about the written portion.

In any event, as Japher said, it's definitely a much better score than you needed. Congrats!

Well if I had taken this test about 10 years ago I'm sure all the best schools will come to ask me to join them, no joking. But I'm old now. So it's not like getting a good score is equal to getting an automatic ticket to where I wanted to go. But as I said, at least I have tried hard, and have not disappointed myself. Whether this brings me to the direction I wanted to go or not, I will not regret of doing this.

Now who wants to help me with my essay/statement? Urgh I'm so tired. And there are still so much to do.

You're almost like me. I would look at a plant and wonder how all those leaves are more or less the same shape (some plants have very complicated leaves) and how they are different from the leaves of plants of another species. I also wonder what advantages would such a shape confer to the plant.

Yes there are a lot of things that I would like to try. I'm still waiting for my kids are a little older to go canoeing. Sometimes you don't get all the opportunities to do what you want to do. Growing up in a poor country (at least it used to be) doesn't help either. But I've never regreted that, for I've experienced a life which not a lot of other people have experienced, and I've gained so much from it. So you make some efforts so that you'd get more opportunities to do whatever you want. But you pick up other responsibilities along the way too. So you still can't do whatever you want to do.

That's ok though. As long as I live each and everyday fully, I will not regret. Unfulfilled wishes are good in the way that you always have something to look forward to.
