Come, laugh at me as I make the dumbest computer mistake in my life. Put an end to popups!

I burned some files to my HOMM3 Complete play CD-ROM. Not only did the files not get burnt, but it also wiped the data from my CD-ROM.

Dammit. That's the first time I've ever done something like that!

i didn´t even know you could make such a stupid mistake with CD-ROMS. It´s happened a few times (more than a few actually) with floppy disks and VHS cassettes you forget to write protect. But not CD-ROMS

... is that even possible? I've always imagined that game CD-ROMs are finalized so that rewriting on them is impossible. Are you sure you didn't actually burn on a blank (i.e. have you taken the thing out and made sure that the label is there?).

No, it's the game CD-ROM. All folders read empty and you can't access any of the files (like autoplay.txt, etc) either.

Obviously the physical act of "burning" did enough damage to the CD-ROM to f it up.

Hmm, maybe the game is just so old that when the CD was originally manufactured, it simply didn't pop into anyone's mind that years later CD writers would be household items, so the CD-ROMs weren't proofed against them.

I wonder if some program might be able to recover the data from the CD (I suspect some lead-in sector or somesuch is damaged, not the actual game data as such). It would probably be less of a hassle to just buy or 'acquire' a new copy, though.

I got HOMM 4 3-4 month ago on the CD of a Computer Gaming Magazine for just 3 €
