would it kill them to get a child actor (the bounty hunter's annoying kid) who can act worth a ****. Or get this, how about a director who can direct?

The scene when Anakin went ballistic on those people/creatures that killed his mother could have been a very powerful scene had a good director and a good actor performed it.

That scene could have been one of the best scenes in any sci-fi movie ever. But it was wasted on a no talent director and actor. The script sucked too, but it had potential.

We already have proof Lucas is afraid of making his movies too "dark" because of his removal of the Hans shooting that guy first in the bar scene.

If he wants to accurately portray Annakins fall to the dark side, he's going to have to make it dark. Plain and simple.

I simply did not believe the evil in Anakins act when he said he killed woman and children.

Definetly better than Ewok Hell (though that wasn't bad either... stick to the swordfight at the end, George ).

I'd say it's relative. All the Star Wars movies sucked big time if your basing them on being movies with good acting, directing or plot development, but that doesn't stop them from being hugely entertaining. True, Episode 1 sucked especially hard and Jar Jar Binks is a strong contender for the most annoying thing ever put on a movie screen, but there hasn't been a single movie out of the five that couldn't have been alot better with some better casting choices, a competent director and some serious tweaks to the storyline. So all in all, I'll echo Imran and say AoTC was pretty solid, as long as you're only measuring it against other Star Wars fare.

After looking at the linked site in this thread, I cautiously have hope that Lucas will be moving over to the 'dark' side - at least a lot darker than he has done so far.

either way, I'll wait for word of mouth and reviews. Definately not a movie I will see in the first week.

While it is true the original trilogy wasn't that good, I think they are better movies. Ep 1 and 2 just don't do anything for me. I felt they were boring. Neither had the energy of the first 3. Perhaps if I was a kid I could enjoy them.

Which leads me to my final point. Star wars movies are kids movies. Perhaps the only reason I lik episodes 4-6 was because I was a kid when I first saw them. I only like them now because of nostaligia. And it's the reason why I don't like episodes 1-2.

But when it all comes down to it, you need good characters, and at least someone competant to deliver the lines. Harrison Ford was that guy. Episodes 4-6 were better than 1 and 2 because of Harrison Ford. And I'll say it right now, Star Wars would not have been as popular if he (or at least his character) wasn't in those films. So if they could somehow come up with a character as good as Han Solo's character, they may have a chance.

The guy who played Anakin in AoTC (Hayden Christiansen?) was a terrible actor, and did much to ruin the movie. He wasn't average, he wasn't even disappointing, he was a complete disgrace. I agree with Diss that Hayden ruined the scene where he flipped out and killed the sand people. The scene called for a man in a hate-filled, genocidal bloodlust. Christiansen played it like a whiney brat.

Overall, I think that the Star Wars franchise took a dive the moment that Lucas decided to replace Wookies (who were originally supposed to be on Endor) with Ewoks. That is when he sold out the franchise. A New Hope was excellent, and Empire was even better. However, Jedi was awful and Phantom Menace was even worse. I admit that AoTC was better than Phantom, but it still wasn't very good IMO.

I don't care what the idiot nit-pickers and 'cool' people say. AotC was a good Star Wars movies. People are all nostalgic and think much more highly the originals. It was a better movie than RotJ.

As for Hayden Christiansen. He is no worse than Mark Hamill, who was piss poor.

I'm sorry but a movie that has scenes that are so bad that its a good idea to fast forward through them when you're watching the movie the firs time, its a movie that I'm not going to watch. I have NEVER seen phonier romance scenes, it was just painful to watch.

Maybe I should watch it again while drunker.

AotC was the 2nd worst movie of the series, mainly because of Christiansen. He was unwatchable. Every scene he was in was made worse by his appearance in it.

Mark Hamil may not have been great, but he did have the lost farmboy thing down pretty good. He also looked like he was having fun.

Naw, it was a pretty good story. I especially loved the fight between Fett and Kenobi in the rain over Camino. That was kick ass. Though the ending was great. You of course mean the duel was 2nd best to Yoda v. Dooku, right?

No way... it was an incredible light saber fight, and if you watch it slowed down, you'll see the technical proficiency (ie, it wasn't just jumping up and down, but actual fencing manuevers.

It'll be great to see Yoda fighting again in RotS.

AotC was far better than the first movie, it gave me hope that Episode 3 will turn out right.

Most importantly, and I've said this before, while it had Jar Jar in it, Jar Jar was used to further the cause of Palpatine.

Because he is a sucker.

I loved that Lucas used the most hated Star Wars character of all time to cause the rise of the stormtroopers.
