CTP just wont work with PBEM games

I had such high hopes
watch them get crushed

here is my sad story

Before my hard drive crashed (Vaio/windows XP with SP2 installed)

everything was right in the world.

After installing on to the new hard drive. SP games work just fine.

After recieving a pbem game, nothing. I tired the all compatiblities
and still nothing...any moj you can give me

hmm i really have no idea.
did you start the game in SP mode before trying to open a PBEM turn ?
did the PBEM turn have the extension ".csg" ?
is the PBEM turn shown with the CTP symbol ?
did you try a reinstall ?

Have you applied the CtP patches, esp. 1.21?

I think you have to associate .csg with the call to power .exe somewhere within the directory structure, not with "play ctp.exe"

- Gavrushka dropped to bottom of Deity level for inactivity.
- Mathemagician dropped to bottom of Deity level for inactivity.

Gavrushka was set to inactive. I dont feel like playing too much lately, so I set myself to inactive too.
Also, I'm not sure if i want to continue running this ladder. I don't particulary like the system very much the way it currently is and I don't have the nerve right now to work out those changes I talked about.
I will continue running the ladder for the time being. Maybe not playing in it anymore will help there. Still, are there any volunteers who would take over ?

no- started a trial pbem, came back...no go
yes- I had to manually insert .csg
no-no symbol, even after .csg
yes- numerous

a) do you mean that the turn file from your own PBEM game didnt have the ".csg" extension or just that the file you were sent didnt have it ?
the PBEM file you are sent from a player should be ".csg" right away. but usually renaming it to ".csg" should be fine. however, it your program failed to give that extension right away, that would be very weird.

b) after the installation, you need to enter the CTP main menu once (possibly also quitting it again) before you try to open any ".csg" file. if you have done so, a regular double click should open it. did you try it in that order ?

does that mean that some files had the wrong extension without ever actually being sent by email ? the save right onto your desktop had the wrong extension ? that would be very weird.
