The Rules:

Notes:
Note 1: BAID represents the highest CTP solo artificial intelligence level ever defeated -- BEST ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE DEFEAT (without cheating, of course). This gives a rough indication of the player's level, and initially places players on the ladder somewhat fairly.

Note 2: Players appear on the ladder when they show an interest in being on the ladder -- first, in their BAID level and then in the order that they joined the CTP PBEM Challenge Ladder.

Note 3: Ladder positions change when a player lower on the ladder defeats a player higher on the ladder. When a lower ladder player defeats a higher ladder player:
1) the lower player takes over the ladder position of the higher player;
2) the higher player moves down one slot on the ladder;
3) the lower player attains the BAID level of the higher player (if different).

Note 4: There is no cheating or bug exploits allowed in CTP PBEM Challenges. Anyone caught cheating will be permanently banned from the CTP PBEM Challenge Ladder.

Note 5: You may challenge any player up to three slots above your current position. If the person challenged dodges the challenge continually with no good reason, then the one challenged may lose one or more positions on the ladder.

Note 6: You may also change positions on the ladder by defeating the "computer players" in a solo match at a difficulty level higher than you currently have.

Note 7: In PBEM Challenges, a player wins in the normal manner, but also wins if the player achieves a Power Graph (PG) rating four times their opponent's graph (4xPG), beyond the 20 turn mark, (except in the Dual-Duel format where it is recommended to use the standard victory conditions only -- see note 8).

Note 8: The Dual-Duel format makes for a fair game. It completely equalizes the starting positions -- Two games started simultaneously on the same randomized map with starting positions swapped. First one to win a game wins the match. Use this format if you wish. If you do use this dual-duel format, it is recommended that you do NOT use the 4XPG (mentioned in note 7 above), victory condition because one civilization may have a much better starting position.

Note 9: Any player not responding to a direct challenge within two weeks will be dropped from the ladder. For example, CheckMate has challenged three players, Milamber (who he is already playing and so doesn't count as a challenge), Taladas and Frozzy. If Taladas and Frozzy do not respond to CheckMate's challenge within two weeks from the date of his challenge here on this thread, then they will be dropped from the ladder. Note that a "response" doesn't mean acceptance of the challenge. The challenged player may have a good excuse. He or she must simply "respond" here on this thread. If the challenged player continually dodges the challenger(s) with excuses, then that challenged player may drop down the ladder depending upon the circumstances.

Note 10: Draws do not count for either a win or a loss for either player.

Note 11: (Ratified on 3-AUG-2004) Once a CTP PBEM Challenge Match is agreed upon by both players, then any absence from the game for over two weeks will result in a win for the present player and a loss for the absent player. This rule to take effect from 3-AUG-2004 forward, (i.e. this rule is not retroactive.)

Pollution On
Number of Civilizations: 4
(2 Human Players, 2 Computer Players)

Let's play

Send turn 0, post all rules you want to play I can play any way you want, I mean with or without wonders, piracy, slavery, turns of peace, number of AI's,... but please avoid the use of farm under city and other bugs/tricks, ok?

Oh and let the game as balanced as possible... I don't want you to be on river on forest and me on tundra.

Math

I am playing my scenario with SLIC PW and several additions on like a 150 X 280 map no piracy no pillaging and exclusions

love it

I have 11 ai on this mostly islands map

of course at that size still lots of land

no crashes through 2 games with over 300 turns played each..encouraging news

Peace

I would have to go through and document all changes

I may do this its just when I posted I was working on an epic I got such limited responses I decided to just play as a sp scenario

I would if I found enough responses

I just didnt feel like wasting anyones time like my own if not any interest was raised

small ladder update !
Challenge match #142 (Math - berXpert) added.

notes:
- i cancelled only the one blackice match where it was specifically requested by Milamber. lets hope he resumes the rest.
- when possible i will try to put the challenging player's name first in the list of challenge matches. just a cosmetic thing.

Epw is MIA MISSING IN ACTION for a bit due to personal reasons

I tried challenging someone in a similiar situation and was told I could not advance

I had a game going with someone whom I really dont recall they just dissappear (hence MIA)

Just sharing is all

Get a bigger avatar today!

please, could you dig up that old post with your situation, Troll. or explain as precise as possible what the situation was.

do you mean ricketyclik cannot challenge someone who is MIA ?
do you mean ricketyclik cannot challenge one slot higher if someone is MIA ?
or do you really mean that ricketyclik cannot pass someone on the challenge ladder who is MIA even if he plays and beats someone above that person, which would sound rather strange to me ?

please, i need any information i can get about how which situation was handled when quinns was running this thing in order to prevent any descrepancies from ever happening.
if this turns out to be one of those loopholes and we cannot get it resolved peacefully, i'll be out of this job again before you can say boo !

Actually with as few people here as are

I say this:

code:
MATH IS THE MODERATOR AND WE SHOULD ALL SUPPORT HIS FAIR AND IMPARTIAL DECISIONS

I honestly believe Math you do a very fair job

You stepped up

You run it fair and impartially as possible, using the rules as a guide set forth and have the posts here as literary prose to base future deisions on

You be the KING

we be the loyal subjects

You have my support

ok, so i will assume that Troll meant that you cannot challenge past anyone who is "MIA" (which i would translate as "not yet counting as totally inactive").
about the definition of that, i'll leave that for another time. let's just say blackice is "MIA" for now.

that means ricketyclik can without problems challenge EPW and can surpass EPW in any way as well.
this would also mean that ricketyclik cannot challenge Dimytes (who is 4 spots above ricketyclik).

however, there have also been precedences of people challenging more than 3 slots upwards (like EPW or ricketyclik have challenged me, and probably others can give examples as well). you could always just 'suggest' a challenge and have the higher ranked person challenge the lower ranked.
so, in effect it is more like that you can turn down any challenge from someone further than 3 slots below you without a reason given - as you are not obliged to challenge him back.
in this way ricketyclik can challenge Dimytes, but Dimytes doesnt need to respond to it. or Dimytes could just challenge ricketyclik.

i hope everyone can agree with this conclusion.

if not, it simply changes two things:
- the person initiating the challenge would formally be someone else.
- player A suggests a challenge to player B (with B > A+3) , player B may take that suggestion and challenge player A - instead of player A challenging B right away where player B may accept it.
