4th City Placement Get a bigger avatar today!

While we are only just beginning to build our first Granary, I'd like to open up the question of where our next city should be placed.

My view is to settle the next town in a place that will maximise our economic growth.....ie, decent food, high potential production, low corruption. This means relatively close to our capital, rather than specifically to access resources or maximise our land area.

I supppose there is a case for settling towns further out to claim territory and backfilling later, but I'm not a proponent of that. I prefer to keep the core tight, strict 3-tile spacing to enable ease of defence, and if necessary, take our desired lands by force later. If we maximise our economy compared to others, this should not be a problem.

So subject to checking out the fog, I think the first potential site to look at is on the hill 477 of the capital.

Another possibility is 666 of the capital (a really EVIL number!) for the Dyes, while a less attractive possibility due to dryness is 889 of the capital. I'd even be prepared to depart from the 3-tile policy and consider 8889 of the capital, settling on the hill for the river access.

We also need to explore SW of Sweet Desolation - perhaps we will be lucky and there is a river there.

Overall objective for me (over time), is to surround our capital with core cities, rather than to go off in any particular direction.

Your turn......

Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

I believe we should head towards the centre of the map, and back fill the spaces later. We already have 2 cities in our core, and both should be good cities. Aquarius might be a little low on shields, but is high in food.

However, if we goto war with the Northerners, we would want to tight pack the cities around our core for ease of defence..

Put an end to popups!

Time to decide.

My vote - 447 of the capital, next to the Iron.

Got spare money?

Agreed. The biggest disaster we could have right now would be somehow seeing an enemy city pop up at that iron just before we get there.
