well I guess they can't let it go now because if they go away, terrorists will keep on striking Russia in their own field, no doubt. They would have to leave in a way where they would have no ties or any kind of reach there anymore and then MAYBE it would be settled. However I don't know why they want to keep their influence in that region, but there must be a reason because they do.

Last I checked, Maskhadov being a bastard didn't constitute proof that anyone else was any less of a bastard. Name one Chechen rebel leader that would've made a better partner for negotiations ...
