Well, well, well...
I came across this FREE fan remake of a Civ2-like game today.
The screens look amazing...
Note that this game is OPEN SOURCE and NEW AIs can be programmed...
Check it out here:

It looks like this game has a lot of potential.
It's the work of one guy, but there is a lot that can still be done:
* You can add sounds if you like
* Add new and tougher AI routines (apparently you can download more AI routines from the site and add them to your game)
* Uses Civ2 graphics
* Additional features could be added, such as a zoom function, scenarios, etc...

I wonder if scenaros can be programmed into it?
Apparently, the game is in constant development.
For anyone with programming skills, this looks like it could be quite a project to work on...

"Book Chapters:"
At the opening game screen you will see a tab labelled "book chapters". This contains all the saved turns of your game plus an auto save.
Just select the saved turn or auto save to continue with the game up to that point.
I think if people like this game, they could send suggestions to Civ-evo's creator to include changes to the game.
Such as:
* Game saves
* Scenario creation
* zoom function, etc.

Of all the Fan created Civ2 games this one seems to come the closest to the look and feel of Meier's Civ2.
It seems its creator was tired of the problems and limitations that plagued Civ2 (as we all are).
It would be kind of interesting if the Civ2 community, in addition to working on Civ2 and ToT, also "adopted" Civ-evo...
We have always wanted a Civ2 game in which we had access to the source code and could program an AI.
It would be interesting to see what would happen if the community approached Civ-evo's creator and suggested some form of collaboration.
We have all the graphics, scenarios and talent here... Now all we need is for Civ-evo to incorporate more changes we would like to see...
