	Watch Ozzy Sell Out Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Ack, I'm such a media whore. Anyone who wants to watch me totally sell out can tune into Fox News today between 4 and 5 pm EST.

I say sell out because the topic doesn't really concern youth rights, or what my organization (or I) really stand for. The topic is whether Bob Schaffer, temporary replacement for Dan Rather, is too old for the job and should be put out to pasture. I was assured it would be just a light hearted segment, and they just needed someone young on to make that case a bit. Hmmm. I dunno.

Ack, this sucks. I have no ill will towards Bob Schaffer, and by saying that he is too old for the job I am guilty of ageism myself, and that's definitely not what I am about. Yet, exposure is exposure, the more the better. Plus being the go-to guy for Fox News is cool too, and good for the cause.

I am going to try the classic sell-out line and see if I can play in the mud and not get dirty. I can say a few things about the merits of youth in general, and hopefully try to avoid attacking Schaffer, or being mean about it. But ack, this will take some finese.

So if anyone wants to watch me, the media-whore, go on national TV and sell-out, you can tune into the Neil Cavuto show on Fox News today from 4 to 5 PM.

I still feel bad about turning down a shot to be on MSNBC a year or two ago because the issues weren't 100% NYRA issues. They were general student issues, and I certainly could have found something to say on them, but I turned it down, and MSNBC hasn't called back since. So I'm going to do this, and see what I can do to turn the discussion to youth rightsish issues.

Bob Schaffer's a great guy. He still gets excited by the news. You suck for attacking him. You should have the courage to stand by your convictions and use the segment to segway on to your agenda. Or I'll never respect you again.

If you object to him because he holds different positions then yours, I don't see a problem. It's easier to use actual positions instead of generalizations, even though the result is the same.

Actually I've got a good plan of attack. Not criticize Schaffer at all, but just complain over the general lack of diversity in the mainstream media. Bob Schaffer, for all his pluses and minuses, is yet another old, white, man. I'll challenge CBS to find someone much different, like an under-30, black or hispanic woman to be the new anchor.

Plus try to turn the discussion to discussing the general positive traits of youth over age. That young people may in fact be better folks to have in the news than old folks, because by and large youth are more open-minded and have fresh approaches to issues, whereas old folks are more set in their ways and prone to long standing biases.

I think I can actually do a good job on the show and still leave with my dignity. Make a plea for diversity, say positive things about youth, and maybe I won't be selling out after all. This will be good.

They should have pre-voice-broken boys reading the news. Then if their voice cracks on air, the security guards come in and drag him crying out of the studio, and he can be replaced mid-show with a younger one. It would add a random period of excitement to the news every once in a while.

One angle to take might be the "self fullfilling prophesy" approach.

Right now... the demographics for those that watch network news is highly skewed to older people. Young people currently aren't watching these programs, prefering to get their news from other sources... One could argue that they need to have somebody who can communicate with the older audience, and that's why they picked another old fart wasp.

Maybe... your point of view of going younger might help them attract a different and larger audience.

Frankly, CBS nightly news has simply sucked in the ratings... they have been in third place for ages. So by sticking to the tried and true method, they are almost saying they want to continue to be third in the ratings.

Why shouldn't they take a chance at this point with somebody fresh. Third place is third place... somebody new couldn't do any worse than they are currently doing.

What do they really have to lose at this point
