seems like that's a known problem
according to the support page, they reckon it's mostly caused by corrupted files. proposed solution is to uninstall the game using add/ remove prog's and then re-install.
here is the page reference:
In program: Unexpected Exit when the era changes
i'm assuming that, since your machine wants to run home to mummy everytime something goes wrong (send error report), you must be experiencing the endless joy and warmth that comes from running windows xp.
if so, you can check out the faq at
Atari - Windows XP Support Page
if that doesn't work, you will need to get at least this much info together:
System Make and Model
Processor Type
Operating System, including version number if possible (such as Windows Me; Windows 2000; Windows XP)
RAM (Memory)
Any screen or error messages you've encountered (and where)
game version and patch number
hope that get's you going again
edit: hmm, the second link keeps going wonky on me, typical @#$% xp behaviour!
use this one instead;
atari - civ3 main support page
