How Many Pushups Can I Do? Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

How many do you think I can do before getting too tired to do another?

Its been over 3 months since I last worked out. The best Ive ever done is 74, the worst Ive ever done is 30, and when I work out I do 3 sets of 25 with a 10 second stretch between sets.

I say I can do 80-90

Considering your best is 74 and the fact that you haven´t excercised in a while I´d say 40-50 tops.

I don´t think I can do 10. But then my left arm is still weak after the bike accident, and I haven´t excercised as much as I should have and...

It depends what kind of push-ups they are. I can do 50 shallow ones easily before taekwondo, but when I'm just doing some for the hell of it 35-40 "proper" ones will do.

I do do them properly. When I was in wrestling in school our coach would make us redo all of our pushups if just ones person was sloppy about it.

Its people who train doing sloppy pushups that can only do 30 proper.

Hey, if space says he can do 80-90, who am I to disagree?

I did more than that back when I was a whippersnapper but I only bothered to count about once a week or so. Most days I just did 'em until the muscles burned.

Oh, do girly pushups to build strength.

quote:

It would be easiest to demonstraight but Im not flying to see you.

1) Lie chest down with your hands at shoulder level, palms flat on the floor and a little more than shoulder width apart, feet together.

2) Have your chin touching the floor.

3) Straighten your arms as you push your body up off the floor. Keep the back straight.

4) Breath out as the arms begin to get straight.

5) Then lower the body to the floor. Bending the arms and keeping the body straight.

6) Lower the body till your chest touch the floor.

7) Pause and start again to do a second, third and so on.

http://ar.essortment.com/pushupexercis_rwct.htm

Looking forward and squeezing you buttocks helps keep your back straight and makes you more stable which makes the workout more benificial. Its also best if you just try to get within an inch of the floor, trying to go all the way down can lead to bouncing on your rib cage when you start getting tired.

You should do it slowly. Try ~2s when you push, and double that when you come down. Faster than that and you are relying on momentum.

Are you touching the floor with your chest or how far ar you going ?

It's hard to say how many you can do without seeing your form.

Also what is your hand position, wide or narrow?

I don't really know you so I can't say. In my prime I could do 60-65 in two minutes which was enough to get around 85% on the Army PT test in the push up catagory. Now days I'd have trouble doing 35-40 if that.

Yeah, perhaps you should try the 'proper ones' as UR has dubbed them if you get >50 with little effort. They're real killers, but build up muscle faster.
