Age of Empires 3 Increase Your PM Length

So what information do we have about the game, besides that it is going to be ****ing beautiful - and none of our current computers will be able to support this kind of beauty?

I know that it will spawn at least one expansion pack, as well as some sort of "Gold Edition" combo.

i enjoyed AOE, i played that before I got Civ. Even bought ROR.

AOK wouldnt run on my PC - the specs were ok, there was a copy protection conflict. Its on my list for the future.

IIUC AOE3 will be set after the AOE2 - IE early modern period - IIUC thats precisely the period covered by Cossacks - isnt there a Cossacks2 coming out? I suspect the MS marketing bulldozer will overwhelm Cossacks, though.

and at the time, i didnt even have a CD writer. AOK copy protection just didnt like the particular model of CD ROM drive on my PC - tech support was aware of the problem, and there was nothing they could do.

Thank goodness i could still return games to EB, in those days.

It's a collection of mini-games, with some strategy, some RPG, and some reaction testing.

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

It's set from the discovery of America till the US Civil war. Thus, railroads in later ages. Gunpowder units do NOT completely dominate the battlefield, as melee cavalry still exists late in the game and is important. Formations also have more importance, something similar to how it is in RoN. While AoE3 is still largely based on reflexes, it's somewhat easier to win through superior strategy and tactics. But yes, you still do need speed. The campaign for this game is sort of a traditional AoE campaign. Historical events, many battles, should be fun.

AoE3 uses the Havok engine for a ton of stuff... units dying, buildings collapsing, that's all physics controlled. Cannonballs roll on the field, too. Water is fully DirectX9, pixel shaders are there... naval battles look as good as bikini girls on beach on a summer day.

Oh, it focuses on multiplayer, of course, with a new version of ESO for matchmaking. Thankfully, the focus there is just like with Age of Mythology, on being able to get a game quick. Which is unlike AoE2, where the MSN Zone might not have been bad, but you might easily spend 20 minutes to get a game.

Any specific questions, just ask .

Age of Empires III (PC)
Age of Empires III offers gamers the next level of realism, with advanced battle physics and unparalleled visual detail. The new game picks up where Age of Empires II: Age of Kings left off, placing gamers in the position of a European power determined to explore, colonize and conquer the New World. This time period features stunning scenes, from towering European cathedrals to courageous tribes of Native Americans, and spectacular combat with Industrial Age units like rifled infantry, cavalry and tall ships bristling with cannons. In addition to technology upgrades, Age of Empires III also features a slew of new game-play elements, including the concept of a "Home City," new civilizations, units, technologies and an immersive new single-player campaign that spans three generations.

I don't know. Am I the only one who prefers "older graphics"? For me, the graphics of AoE2 were just fine.
This game, while looking good, has too many shadows and derail that difficult the actual gameplay for me. Just imagine getting those houses and trees in the way of your view...

Is there warfare located in Europe, or does it take place only on the New World (and if yes, does it take place in the whole New World, or only North America?)

AFAIK it only takes place in the new world (I don't know if it's only north America), not in Europe (except for the 'home town' feature)

I haven't seen that many screenshots of AoE3 so I haven't noticed if it's diffecult to see what is going on
But I do like what they have written about how the engine works: Firing a cannon to a wall will put a hole in the wall where it hits, this can't be done on older engines... of course this is just eye candy

No Europe! that kind of sucks. I was never into the early America stuff. I miss the old days, and I'd have to agree with Wernazuma III, that, at least in the screenshot provided, there do seem to be too many shadows.

I worry that my computer won't the um...horsepower...or whatever to run such a beautiful game.
