I actually heard there are huge amounts of oil there. Don't believe everything in the liberal press.

Also in the gulf of mexico I heard there are huge untapped oil reserves.

As the price of oil keeps increasing, so does investment into the Alberta reserves.

Not to mention the massive royalty increase due to the price...and the elimination of the Alberta debt, Alberta's looking at a ton of money.

Yes, because we know how the economy works. The oil that would be extracted would only be a drop in the bucket. It would only make the oil companies richer.

I have heard many estimates, but my gut feeling is that we will have peak oil between 2020 and 2030. Also, I have read that Non-OPEC oil production will peak before production from OPEC countries. And yes, Peak Oil is relevent.

That is definitely something that should be invested more heavily in.

Kiddo, businesses are the backbone of the economy. If they are richer, the better (responsibly and honestly that is).

I've read that production isn't the bottleneck. It's more a problem with distribution.

No they aren't. Thier overall spending is insignificant. The consumer is the backbone.

Asher's graphic is more than a little misleading. We don't know how much oil sands are available, but it's a whole lot. Also, in the US, we have a whole lot of oil shale (similar to oil sands) that remains untapped.

The "problem" with both oil sands and oil shale is that extraction is rather environmentally unfriendly. Very much like strip mining for coal. The reason Alberta can get away with it politically is because nobody lives in vast stretches of Alberta.

Not when the oil companies want to make sure they get a profit to the last drop. You assume the market will create the demand, it ain't happening. Why do you think the car companies b*tch when the government tries to require more efficent cars?

the problem with hydrogen fuel cells is that the manufacturing process of hydrogen uses fossil fuels
