The M249 uses a 5.56mm round instead of the M60's 7.62 round but it does have a higher rate of fire whle the M240B is the direct replacement for the M60. In typical military style the M240B was supposed to be a lighter weight and more reliable version of the M60 however it ended up being heavier if slightly more reliable.

Well, what do you expect for a Belgian weapon?

Actually I like the old FN MAG (it's original name) - used by the Brits as the GPMG, although gradually being replaced by the M249 (which is ALSO a Belgian weapon)...

... who says the Belgians aren't militant?

I'm sure some of it was there but the Iraqis mainly had Russian, Hungarian, or Libyan made AK-47s with either Italian made Berretas, American Browning .45 M1911 pistols, or Iraqi made single action Tariq 9mm pistols. The Tariqs were not a well made fire arm nor were the Libyan AK-47 knock offs. The other stuff was off good quality.

I know the SAW is made by FN though I'm not sure about the M240B. It most certainly is based off of the M60 but has a more streamlined shape, contoured hand gripes compared the blockish M60, plus it had a revised loading and ejecting mechanism to prevent jams. You could be right about it being an FN design.

Well the Type 56 is probably worse then the Libyan AK-47 knock-offs..

That I've pulled the trigger of, either a TOW1 or Carl Gustaf AT gun. IIRC the TOW is larger but the CG is a bigger/closer bang.

If I include fire that I directed (standing behind the turret), then it'd be a 120mm gun on a chieftan MBT.

when i was 13 I attended a a summer camp that had a rifle range and i shot a .22 caliber rifle, single shot, prone at targets.

Never fired a gun since.

now my father, my he rest in peace, was the gunnery officer of a USN destroyer at Okinawa - dont think they had a chance to fire the 5 inch gun, but Im sure they fired the full range of AA weapons. Id have to google to check out the specs on those weapons.

to clarify - at the battle of okinawa - the AA weapons were fired in battle - I suppose they fired the 5 inch gun in training, or whatever.

I've only fired the M16A1, I am afraid.

I want to join a firing range, though, so this might grow.

I was waiting for that one. I am actually surprised that it took until post # 40 something to come (pun intended)

But i was hoping for something better. Like I fired the one-eyed trouser mouse, or something like that.

Got spare money?

at initial posts. I thought it was only us americans that were supposed to be in love of big guns.

The largest I ever fired was a 12 gauge shotgun for qualifications. I even shot it left handed.

I shot whatever the guns they make you do clay pigeon shooting with are.

I only hit one thing and got thrown backwards every time I fired the gun.

Don't think I'm cut out for the military.
