I've been standing next to an M1 tank when it fired and I've been around loads of arty and mortar fire. I've also had the unfortunate experience of being shot at by AK-47s, an RPG-7, and my vehicle got hit with shrapnel from a 82mm mortar round.

Negative shipmate.

The Fletcher-class destroyer had five 5" guns all linked to what was at the time the most advanced fire control/radar suite in existance. All guns fired from by the direction of a single gunnery officer from that suite, though the turrets were manned in case of a malfunction.

These guns were used to good effect at Okinawa and other islands, some destroyers actually aproaching the coast untill the keels were scraping the bottom to get a better shot. The USS Hoel and USS Hermann were are two ships at Okinawa that did this

You really wouldn't want to be right next too it or bad things happen, but I did push the firing trigger from the equipment room which is just forward of the launchers.

I guess it would be the 30-06. Also a 7mm magnum, about the same muzzle energy. There's some place in Texas you can go and shoot all kinds of heavy weapons for $$. Have to try that some day.

Yeah...that M/62 is a mean machine gun. It's actually a modified version of the machine gun that the Nazis used in WW2.

Did you know that at the rate it fires, when one round is being ignited in the chamber, one is in the middle of the barrel, and one is just leaving the muzzle.

Hard to say. I've fired an old Lee Enfield 303, an FN C1 and a 19th century muzzle-loading Enfield rifle. The Lee-Enfield had a hell of a kick, but nothing compare to the Enfield.

One thing though, after firing the L-E, I had a lot more respect for the grunts who had to fight with that weapon.

I call bullcrap. I'm not counting weapons my ship carried like you are.

Only weapons I personally fired.

If you are an officer you haven't fired any of them. If you are an FC you don't fire guns and missiles.
