No problem. I've played this game for years(in Norwegian, but it's basically the same of course), and the effect should then be that I can't guess more this time. Or do you use yet another dissimmilar rule than I am used too?`

I imagine what he is saying is that with only 4 guesses remaining, a guess would be far better spent picking a letter than on a word that is probably wrong. So nobody really cares that you can't guess any more, but actually that as a consequence the word might remain unguessed. Not that it matters much, IMO.

Thanks. My guesses are, while I might not know most of these obscure words, not only for +1 purposes. Of course, I have nothing against it, I think the amount of posts should be shown in the post count, because it's a post count, but I like to participate in games and maybe win. I haven't been near yet, but that's not my fault. Real rare words here...

I think forum Hangman is a team game, and making guesses unlikely to benefit yourself whilst making it much more likely that the team lose are a little disrespectful IMO, game or not.

People complain (in fun, obviously) at fiendish 5 letter words, but the truth is with all sensible guesses the chances of getting a given word are high. But in reality lots of words go unguessed...........

to what DrSpike said. It's a lesson I learned early on (exactly how the Hangman game works here), a few weeks ago Now I've won twice now ...

Anywho, that was wrong. And some of you guys could have guessed a letter first, couldn't ya have? Still waiting on letters

To combat this - is it possible we could adjust the rule setting the limit to 10 guesses? Something like "Guesscount = 15-(number of letters)" with minimum of 5 guesses or something? (Or incorporate square roots or somesuch to allow for more slow limit drops...) ??

Or just a schedule of guesses for word amounts, such as

5-6 letters: 10-12 guesses
7-8 letters: 8-10 guesses
9-10 letters: 7-9 guesses
11+ letters: 6-8 guesses
(i leave a range here, we could leave the range to allow the word-maker the decision, or specify the limit?)

Well the game has evolved so that the setter also wants to win. Adjusting the guesses like you suggest first is therefore not attractive.

Similarly we can't really allow the guesser to specify the number of guesses.

The differential number of total guesses for longer words might allow more variety though.
