Actually, only the second method allowed the setter any leeway- the first operated on a 1 extra guess for each less letter principle, ie 5 letters = 10 guesses, 7 letters = 8 guesses etc.

And I was thinking of having a small range, basically to allow the setters to show off by allowing more guesses
