Early Alliances Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

Folks - I am wondering if one or more of the other teams (BoH comes to mind) are busy forging early alliances. We would hate to be on the weak side of a 4 on 2 early war.

Team Monkey got burned by such a deal in the ptwdg2.

I am thinking we should line up early and strong alliances with the Lost Boys and the Morporkians. An agreement to stand as one if we are attacked. Something along those lines.

I can see Paddy gently twisting the arms of two other teams, and then hordes from 3 civs descending on one unsuspecting civ. I do not want us to be that one civ.

Thoughts?

If so, no kudos to them for keeping themselves free of manipulation.

We've hardly begun to get a good picture of what our megacontinent looks like. As such, it's hard to get a picture of the true global political situation - hard for anyone - and we cannot yet know what sort of borders we're aiming for either.

Frankly... I'm loathe to sign agreements with both our neighbors at such an early point in the game. If we want more land later, we'll either have to break treaties or abandon those wants. I'd consider allying with one of the two, but not both. In the worst case scenario where both manage to hem us in, we'll simply have to turn on one with military force in order to get a competitive amount of land.

Increase Your PM Length

Sorry, This is my only PBEM, but are we allowed to consider Paddy's game play from other games? Wise - yes. Allowed?

Alliances - These are our neighbors. From what I have seen. The three of us have played nice so far. We could form an alliance for a set amount of time (10 - 20 turns), and renew or discontinue as needed. An Alliance does not need to be set for all 6000 years of the game.

Getting hemmed in - That is something that should be prevented with city buiding.

Should be, yes. It's just not completely certain.

Also, this is a small map with the full 6 civs, right? Even if no one civ gets hemmed in and is given a smaller piece of the pie, we may all be left with an unsatisfactory amount of land until someone goes.

Which is why we stay friendly and ally with our neighbors - early. As the game progresses we can adjust.

Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

From what I see as our position, I don't see us as being the primarly attacker. I see three unique luxary types within our natural borders.

Indeed, it's much more likely that someone would want to attack us because of our good fortune.

So, we would be looking for a defensive alliance rather than an offensive alliance. And as such, both of our immedate neighbors would be best.

That is my thinking.

But also keep in mind that each civ was probably given a close source of ivory, along with other luxuries. This was a prepared map - and we may not be in that unique of a situation.

But I still like the defensive alliance idea.

Suffering from ads?

From my talks with Ljube it seems that a Horde-Morporkian conflict is coming. Ljube is trying to get us on the Horde's side of course.

Ljube says:
Well, but at lest you respect other nations borders which is not exactly what we can say about the Ankh-Morpork.
Caspian says:
Trespassing troubles?
Ljube says:
Indeed.
Ljube says:
On two occasions they put our cities in grave danger.
Ljube says:
Be careful when dealing with them. Their UU if terrible and fast aso if there is flat land between the two of you, ...
Caspian says:
Our bowmen defend us well.
Caspian says:
I will bring this issue of world concern to the attention of Babylon along with the trade proposal.
Ljube says:
I thank you for that
Ljube says:
if you do get the wheel next turn, we're still open for trades, though at the moment you don't have anything to offer, things will surely change in the future
Ljube says:
Guided by the enlighted Beta, your people are destined to achieve great things
Ljube says:
cultural wonders for the envy of the entire world
Ljube says:
advanced technologies which will amaze the wise men of other nations
