I voted yes, however, I'd kind of like to see an added pay schedule. Like 200 or 150 lump and also 5g/turn. Perhaps 5 is too much, but if we are doing this only because it may help snoopdog we might as well try to keep them dried up. The 200g does sound good and will help w/ upgrades. Either way I think voting yes helps us out. Perhaps we offer them this and also ask that they spend their money to set up the embassy. Just some ideas to help our thoughts move along to perfection.

According to the tech calculator (assuming emperor level with 6 civs on a standard sized map) Alphabet costs 150 for the first to research it....and as follows:
1: 150 gp
2: 135 gp
3: 121 gp
4: 107 gp
5: 92 gp
6: 78 gp
200 gp for this tech is an incredible bargain (for us) and very expensive (for them). Please vote yes and get them to accept before they realize their error!

Yes indeed. There is another problem with not trading it.
I made a deal with snoopy earlier involving us giving them writing and them giving us horse. Now he wants writing and literature at once and he's gonna give us horse when he gets it. We said ok if you don't trade it. He said we can’t make such conditions, we must give him all, etc.
I said writing is twice as expensive as horseback riding and according to our tech trade agreement we should be compensated for the difference. The compensation we ask is that they refrain from trading it at least a couple of turns, at least until they give us horse. Then he had a long monologue where he accused us of wanting to trade these techs before he could (?!). I said we didn't want to trade the techs at all. He said that he wanted to trade those techs aggressively.
He said that Mac and he believe in "in trading techs aggressively for our benefit, Either for additional techs, or for lots of cash".
He continued: "additional techs, if we trade one tech with three groups for three different techs, helps us a lot more than not trading it and cash, keeps others from researching as fast either way, puts us in a more advanced spot compared to other teams."
He also continued: "Literature is a particularly valuable tech, as it is considered very valuable to some teams, especially scientific teams, and can earn a lot."
I cracked and started to call him names and then in a private conversation Paddy and I concluded I should no longer be ambassador with them.
So, now you see why we are forced to trade techs aggressively ourselves in spite of the fact we did not want to do so. If we keep the techs for ourselves and yet share them with our so called allies, they will trade them to the whole world. Their play pattern resembles the AI, I don't understand the AI and I also have a motto: If you don't understand it, get rid of it.

Ok...here is an update...when I first was doing the calculations...I had thought Paddy said Alphabet. If we are talking Writing...then the numbers change. Apparently Aqua is offering only 100 gp. This is not a fair trade:
1: 240
2: 217
3: 194
4: 171
5: 148
6: 125
So even if Aqua is the last to research writing, they would have to pay at least 125 gp (assuming that they paid the exact price and did not have beakers left over) and it would take them 4 turns!
I still believe 200 was a reasonable trade, 100 is not.
