I hated Worff, and the plot contortions they went through to have him both on DS9 and then back on the Enterprise for the movies were embarrassing.

I dunno about that. They keep on being killed or court martialled because they're possed by aliens, part of a conspiracy, have abused their postion of authority or whatever, and yet there are still more admirals. Face it. Admirals are the red shirts of the TNG/DS9 world.

Perhaps another reason why they only placed a low ranking officer in charge of the station is because it wasn't a Federation facility, it was a Bajorin facility. The Bajorins allowed the Federation to manage it because they had just gained their independence and weren't able to equip and staff it. Placing a Federation staff on the station provided a sort of insurance against Cardaqssian retaliation.short of establishing a formal; alliance with the Federation. After the prolonged rebellion the Bajorin's weren't ready to trust foreigners enought to enter into an alliance, but evidently were able to be comfortable with having a small continengent man a station at the edge of their solar system. If the Federation had placed an admiral in command it might have appeared to the Bajorins that the Federation meant to keep the place.

Also the wormhole spirits appear to have been watching Sisko for a long time, since he was after all one of them, and may have manipulated events to bring him back to them.

And Sisko was also easily the best of the commanders, after Kirk.

I disagree. Take a look at the DS9 episode 'Sacrifice of Angels' - where a gigantic Dominion fleet of reinforcements is erased by the Prophets as they travel through the wormhole. The writers wrote themselves into an impossible situation and were forced to use a stupid get-out clause in order to let the Federation win.

Okay, I'll rank the Captains:
Best, Picard
2. Sisko
3. Archer
4. Kirk
Worst, Janeway

The first four are all good, but Janeway's awful. Kirk is s mart, he just isn't obvious about it. Archer really has the spirit of exploration. My comments about Kirk also apply to Sisko. Picard is just Da Man. If you want to count Spock in there, he goes between Picard and Sisko. And Sulu would go between Sisko and Archer. Riker would go second to Janeway.

Think enough of us have given the same answers to the same questions yet?

The way they kept bringing Worf back to the Enterprise for the movies was indeed dumb. I don't even remember them always even trying to explain it. He should have stuck to being a diplomat.

Admiralization is a punishment for naughty Captains.

But this was a long-time coming, not some out-of-the blue Deus Ex Machina. Sisko berated the Prophets for not intervening before--he had been asking them repeatedly for help. They finally decided to step up to the plate. That's not a get-out clause, it's the result of a pre-established story arch.

Picard ranks at the bottom of the captains. Are you serious about ranking him first? Come on. He was often ineffectual, he made horrendously crappy decisions, and were the writing on TNG even remotely realistic, he would have been relieved of his command fairly early on for incompetence.

TNG was obnoxious, chiefly because the episodes were all about showing why the Enterprise crew were all incredibly better human beings than you or I. They were the worst collection of characters.

You guys should see the Star Trek Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton.

It has a timeline of all the Star Trek events. It looked pretty accurate (though I'm not one of these Star Trek geeks that can remember every detail).

Okay that's the end of the shameless own city promotion.

I'm not eager to visit Sin City even if it does have a temple. Things like timelines of Trek events should be made available and up to date in books. The best Trek reference material is the Star Charts book. I doubt anyone remembers literally every detail, but I do know a good number I guess. Compared to the general populace or casual fandom, but not organized fandom.

Yeah, that was horrible, as opposed to the standard "reverse the polarity" approach generally used in TNG.

hmm, so what happens if we put a big engine on the earth. Would we be able to accelerate and catapult around the sun? It would be great if we could send the entire planet back in time.

Ah, but you have to swing by the sun reeeally close. And shields. You need shields. And doesn't it require warpspeed?

Put a big engine on Earth. What's least possible here? Y'got shields big enough for the whole planet? And even with shields, the planet would be fried. Forget save the whales. What about global warming? And don't even think about sending the whole planet to warp speed. She canna take much more o' this, Cap'n! Oh, and what about the disturbance in the gravitational force on the other planets?

It's easy. we use replicators to replicate enough dilithium cyrstals and warp engines, and shield generators.
