New City: Where? Increase Your PM Length

Okay, we have a question. Where to put the new city that will come from AbbA in not many turns from now ...

Either:

  1. 774 from AbbA, making good use of the cow
  2. 442 from U2, grabbing the fur and the iron
  3. 7774 from U2, pushing our border west a bit

What are your feelings? BOH may soon give us a plan for the border designation, at which point we can safely build 774 or 442 without worrying about them.

One possibilty is also to build a temple in U2 (15 turns at the present, probably 10 ultimately). That will gain us the iron 5 turns after it is done, thus allowing 774 (Abba) or 7774 (U2) to be built.

I don't feel comfortable trusting our iron to 2nd tier culture. Some yahoo might come along and plop a city next to it to try to take it...right snoop?

It's not as good a city site as #1, but it gets us two resources we need (and if BoH doesn't have furs we can hook up our second in the NE and trade it to them.

I'd never do THAT ... tho ask Wittlich about the friendly culture war we have going in the Expansionist game Two cities, one square between them, happens to be bonus forest (game!), we both have been building every single cultural improvement possible in our respective cities Think Witt is ahead by about 5 net culture right now, and will stay that way until a new improvement shows up

BOH doesn't. I'm pretty sure Dom ensured each civ had 2 luxes, ivory and another or ivory/(something else) and another. BOH has ... silks i think? or spices. Anywho that's why they're making the road.

Increase Your PM Length

I'm still a bit in doubt.

1. Perfect spot economically. Sharing cow, low corruption, river tiles.

2. We need to get the iron source secured. The furs are to be secured too in order to get the lux slider down/ trade with BOH.

3. Good city site, not for now.

4. 663 from AbbA, a good seaside city site and making the other source of furs available.

If we can agree upon the border issue with BOH, I think we're best off with the cow sharing city first. Roading the iron/ connecting to U2 is taking some time, which can be pre build.

What I found funniest was that you didn't even know that was my only iron source since you already had three or so in your territory. If I hadn't already had 30+ companion infantry and been close to completely annihilating Paddy and winning the game, that move would have messed me up for about 5-6 turns while I tried to hook up the other one...with Beta heading toward that area where the other iron was.

I also had a culture war with con over a diamond source in the Age of Discovery PBEM (before con unceremoniously dropped his PBEMs without telling anyone so he could play EQ2). I lost that one too because I didn't have enough cash to rush both a library and a temple and he did.

Sounds good. When we have both cities and both fur sources hooked up a trade always works. We definitely want to keep them happy and "needing us" to keep our western border semi-secure since I have a hunch DR will want to play.

I don't have a problem with that as it is a better site by far than the iron/fur site. But our next settler after this new city definitely needs to go to secure that site.

So was his post back a few months ago a sham, or not telling much of the story at least? He didn't mention EQ2 at all in that ...

I have no idea if it was a sham or not, but Sir Ralph mentioned that he had seen him on some Everquest website a few times, so he obviously had time to do that. The least he could have done was try to find replacements, or at least mention that he was leaving, before actually leaving. Oh well.

Next turn the settler is finished and will move to spot 1, unless someone posts good arguments to reconsider.
