I am experiencing 2%-3% packet loss to google.com and was wondering whether that is normal.

Go to Start-Run, type in "cmd" and enter.

A black box will pop up with a command line. Type in "ping -n 100 google.com"

It will take a couple of minutes, but wait for the process to complete.

How much packet loss do you experience? Are you on broadband or dial-up?

I could care less about packet loss. I worry about hair loss more. And I am getting to the age that I also am concerned with the potential loss of penile pressure, but so far I have been very fortunate in that regard.

FYI, the servers for google.com probably are in the States and/or the UK and Ireland. If you want comparable stats, you would want for the Euros to ping google.fr, etc.

Lost = 0 (0% loss)

Minimum = 31 ms, Maximum = 56 ms, Average = 34 ms

I have Cox cable modem. I'm also running Zone alarm (not sure if that makes a difference)

edit: I'm also running emule. I'm not sure if I was actively downloading during the test, but I was probably uploading at the time.

2% loss, but I am using my bandwidth intensely now.

Minimum = 111ms, Maximum = 123ms, Average = 112ms

This was google.com and with online radio playing. Very stable ping, but not that low, but still descent

Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 78, Lost = 22 (22% loss)
Minimum = 198ms, Maximum = 725ms, Average = 458ms

This was when using all my upload (having several p2p apps open) and a bit of my download
