This made me think of a story that's in the news here. Police are complaining that a growing number of predominantly young people are calling 112 (eq. of 911 here) for the most trivial of reasons because, get this, their cell phones have run out of pre-paid phone time.

Cell phones are required to always allow for placing 112-calls, even when the pre-paid time has run out. So emergency call takers are getting several calls a day from people asking them to call a cab, or to at least re-direct them to their respective girl- or boyfriends, or the local pizza place, etc.

It's developments like this that sometimes make me very happy to think I'll be getting off this crazy world in another 30-40 years at the latest.
