One thing I have been thinking of, adn I want to toss it out for discussion.

We have several (13) libraries, and are currently doing 0 research. We are paying 1 gpt each (or 13 gpt each turn) now, and if we sell them, we get 10 gold each.

That means, that we can gain an immediate 130 gold and 260 gold over the next 20 turns. This is significant.

But by doing this, we are removing options from ourselves.

Please discuss.

Dovetail this analysis into the war timetable. ie does it make sense to trade the butter for guns ie something like keeping the libraries will only get us one more tech before the war?

Do we plan on turning up research soon? If not between now and the war then why keep em?

Discuss with PAL and see what they think, ya its money we (and they) need for upgrades but they need to know it will seriously hamper our research potential if the war drags on and this game continues for some reason.

What about BAT? Do we have a three way alliance with them yet? If so how solid is it?

Three vs one is a pretty fair bet GWT wont be in the next game and we can get this over with quickly. That also makes a big difference in whether we should keep them or not.....

As Con said, we need to discuss it with our allies before we make a decision. They will be the ones who will be using the gold, not us. We need to find out how much 260 gold will help them at this point.

We are currently making 151gpt.
We are sending pal only 100 gpt
the balance is going to fund our infrastructure, mostly additional markets, courthouses, and harbors, the money makers.
PAL would love more money, but we aren't sending all to them as we do want to continue improving ourselves. We can send more to PAL, and they will gladly take it. They just don't need it all.

Nice work GK on thinking about this. And, for the most part, I agree with con. We might just want to ask PAL about it.

I hate to say it, but,...burn the libraries. I do not foresee us doing any research at any time in this game. Getting rid of the libraries will just decrease the amount of turns needed to move this game to the next round.

I don't see the gameplan changing. With BAT in the picture doing the research, there's no need for us to assist. Certainly, we're not taking full advantage of our half-price libraries, but we just don't need to.

Let's focus on our Commercial Trait and financer role. Burn the libraries.

It would be much harder to convince me to sell the barracks though; we could still use them in a pinch if we were somehow invaded by someone other than PAL. If PAL came we'd be screwed either way!
