I proclaim that Boris has PWND Jerry Falwell.
However, if he really hates corrupt bigoted people who were vocal supporters of racism back when it was hip, then maybe it's time for him to give up on defending Robert Byrd. I got into an argument with him over this in January, and I think I have to bring it up in order to point out Boris's partisan slant in judging people.

This is enough for you to conclude that:
quote: He's a racist bigot. |
However, I remember bringing up Byrd's use of the n-word on National TV in 2001, and his Klan membership of several decades ago, and that wasn't enough definitive proof for Boris that the man is a racist.

Before you get all wet over this, let's get some things straight:
Falwell continues to be a racist. His comments about Jews are recent. He also continues to be a bigot, big time, as his comments against homosexuals show. I doubt you will find any similar stances of Byrd (the "n word" example is pathetic, since anyone looking at the context of that can see he wasn't using it with the intent of being racist).
Byrd was indeed a man of his times and a racist ****. But he also had a reckoning with that and has denounced his racist past. I see little reason to believe he is insincere about it. I can't find any such recantations from Falwell.
Furthermore, as to my "partisan slant," you might do well to remember that when Strom Thurmond died, I defended him from attacks by folks here. I believe he honestly repudiated his racist past as well. Not to say that makes him a great guy, but in that aspect I was convinced. That seperates him and Byrd from types like, say, Helms, who was always slyly maintaining his racist roots. And Falwell, who AFAIK has never made any attempt to repudiate any of his bigoted beliefs in the past.
So your huffery is a bunch of empty twaddle.

His movement is dead. The Moral Majority hasn't been a major force for over a decade. Of course, other things have risen and fallen in that time, such as the Promise Keepers. |
But as I posted earlier there were plans to revive it in the hopes of influencing the 2006 and 2008 elections.
