Depends who you ask.

There have been some corruption problems.

The conservatives, if they had any brains in their heads, would be the government right now (due to this scandal)

The problem is that the Liberals sit squarely in the centre of the political spectrum in canada (despite their name).

The conservatives have continually isolated themselves from being electable by centrist voters in Central Canada...

I can understand that. Just because the liberals are corrupt doesn't mean that people want to live with redmeateating, FOXTV watching thugs. They will look for some honest libs. What is the NDP?

It really shouldn't depend on who you asked. Either there was corruption of a certain scale or wasn't. I want to know if you think it was of scale as in that article. (And it's irrelevant to that point if the party matches what Canadians want in ideology).

Or perhaps, you just mean, you don't know. But what do you think?

Got spare money?

Put it this way, GP, the federal Liberals under Chretien were close to a cross between the Chicago democrats and the RNC.

They made corruption feeding into their political longevity an art form.

Too bad for them that many will end up in jail. What, did they think this was Mexico?

TCO, it means I don't know. Just how much of this is real corruption being desperately covered up by the Liberals and how much of it is pure speculation being kicked up by the feeding frenzy is something I'm not sure anybody has enough information to answer other than the people involved.

GP, everybody involved in the inquiry and everybody asking questions in Parliament has obvious reason to lie (if they're covering up) or to overstate the problem/spread speculation.

I have no clue who's telling the truth and who's not.

Your link is hard for me to believe simply because it has everything I have thought it would be and more.

The trail of public funds to ad agencies and then back to the Liberal Party of Canada was already a foregone conclusion. That much has already been hinted at loudly enough that it's gotta be fact.

Where your blogger went over the line was bringing up the Mafia connection. Over the top. However, understandable if someone wanted to fill in the blanks on a darkened hearing by pulling every thread of impropriety recently associated with the Liberals.

If it bears out that Gaglianno was a made man, and the Mafia played a part in the scandal, I'll eat my shorts.

It's simply too good to be true. The Liberal Party of Canada would be destroyed for a generation, if not more. Chretien was a sly little bugger, but he wasn't that stupid. Was he?

Right now the conservatives and the BQ have joined in a sort of unholy alliance to bring down the 800 pound gorilla in the Canadian political landscape. The Liberals are desperately trying to weasel out of any responsibility. The NDP wants to get back to discussing policy, but it looks like that won't happen any time soon.

The link seems to be a bit much, as nye suggests.

There were certainly some improprieties going on, to state it loosely.

I really doubt that the GoC was catering to crime syndicates, on the other hand.

The truth is somewhere in there. It's an awful mess, and I doubt we'll ever know the half of it.

Actually, Harper has been trying to do everything but pull down the government. He is smart enough to know that the results in Ontario and the Maritimes, let alone Quebec, would not be much different from last time until his party has enough time to establish itself.

Suffering from ads?

Oh, and due to the fact that this matter is still under investigation by the commission and witnesses are still being called, there's a publication ban on the whole inquiry so nobody has any idea what's happening behind those doors...

I'm not saying that he's trying to bring down this government; I said he's trying to bring down the Liberal party.

Bringing down the government out of spite would be dumb. Bringing down the Liberal party is, of course, his long-term goal.

Oh, we'll know some day all right. There's that small organization called the RCMP that's skulking around the fringes and collecting God know's what.

They went after Mulroney on nothing but a slander and a prayer. You think their future Tory masters are gonna let the Cretin and his cronies off when the fire is blazing?

'Remember Sinc Stevens' might be their motto.

It would be good if you were incorrect, but I fear you are not.

The country has suffered due to the destruction of the Tories. I don't really relish a similar yet maybe greater destruction of the Liberals.

I mean, I do, but only so long as I fail to contemplate the consequences.

Martin has got to stick it out and let this run the course. Him having at least an ounce of integrity could be a very important ducat for his party to cash in.
