Gaming Terminology Suffering from ads?

It is a little known fact, but in conversation FG Development King Jamski pronounces pwned as pawned, not owned.

Discuss. Preferably with reference to other gaming terminology.

DrSpike is not taking account of the fact that I pronounce the word "dome" (as in St Peter's) as "doorme" because I am so well educated in English

I pronouce "brb" (be right back) as "brurrb". I have also said "for SCIENCE" in a real life conversation. I have practised saying it so you can hear the capitalisation.

* Jamski trys to think of more gaming terminology to kee p from spamming too hard*

It so clearly should be pronounced the same as owned. You all lose.

I prefer powned to pawned though. Never thought I'd write that post.

i not only pronounce it as pawned, I spell it as pawned. Anything else, and the leet speakers (not to be confused with JVC speakers, or my dear departed Magnaplanars) have won. And the end of civilization (not to say civilisation) is near.

And if you own something, you can pawn it, right?

For 3 and half pence.

And pwns him in this process (although I guess you could argue he needed to be owned in the first place ).

pawned is like in chess - when your pawn traps a king and he cant do anything about it

Hmm, I quite like the idea of "correcting" pwn into pawn. Pawned! It's proper English and makes remotely sense, which does make it a poor gaming term.

Why exactly don't you just say owned? How did it get transferred from owned to 0wned to pwned?? That's the crucial question ...

It's a deliberate typo, if that's not an oxymoron, intending to mock excitable kiddies who accidentally write pwned instead of owned. This is of course why it should be said owned not pawned or powned.

I always thought it was "P3ned" or even better "P3/\/ed" pronounced "Pwneed" as in "owned".

The way I understood it, it came from counterstrike and then was adapted into L33tsp33k?
