Reverend Solomwi, what comments do you have for us at this juncture, upon the founding of our 4th settlement?

Reverend Solomwi, please prepare a brief report to the Council on the economic effect of an imminent commencement of our Golden Age at this time.

Treatise on the Economic Effects of Victory by our Glorious Immortals (2030 BC)

Friends, comrades, countrymen, as we are all aware the current hostilities forced upon our noble and peace-loving people by the vile Euphoricans will soon result in a Desolate Golden Age. To quantify the effects of such an age, let us first take a look at the current situation in each of our cities.

Inner Sanctum: Five tiles are being worked, counting the city center, for a total of 10 commerce and 9 shields per turn, with no losses to corruption. This will increase to 15 commerce and 14 shields. Obviously, finding one more shield will be key for two-turn Immortal production. This will solve itself in two turns, when the city grows and the mine to the northeast is finished.
Bottom Line: 15 c, 14 s before growth, 18 c, 16 s after.

Sweet Desolation: Currently six tiles are being worked for 11 commerce and 9 shields, with 2 commerce and 1 shield lost to corruption. Output will increase to 17 commerce and 14 shields, and we can expect this to be reduced by corruption to 14 commerce and 12 shields. One tile isn’t producing any shields and only one commerce. It can be reached by the worker currently mining at IS two turns after he finishes there.
Bottom Line: 14 c, 12 s with growth several turns away.

Aquarius: Aquarians are now working three tiles for a balanced raw output of 4 commerce and 4 shields. Corruption’s bite reduces this to 3 of each. The impending Golden Age will boost the raw output to 7 and 7, with corruption and waste still only claiming one of each. As Aquarius is set to grow next turn and has no improved tiles to work, I recommend building a worker after the current warrior is built.
Bottom Line: 6 c, 6 s.

Antioch: Three tiles worked, 4 commerce, 2 shields, reduced to 3 and 1 by corruption. The lake isn’t producing any shields, so the GA boost will take it to 7 c, 4 s. Of that, we can expect an extra commerce lost to corruption, but waste to stay the same.
Bottom Line: 5 c, 3 s, but will by fairly dynamic due to growth and the workers currently there.

Marcopolis: Three tiles worked for 6 commerce and 3 shields, reduced to 4 and 2. The GA will give us 9 commerce and 5 shields, with corruption taking 3 commerce and 2 shields. Growth is 10 turns off, so the worker currently roading gems should mine the worked grassland next.
Bottom Line: 6 c, 3 s.

Bactra: Two tiles, 4 commerce, 2 shields with only one commerce lost. The GA will bring it to 6 commerce and 4 shields, of which we can expect to lose the one commerce and one shield. Needs improvement badly, but won’t grow for 7 turns.
Bottom Line: 5 c, 3 s.

Looking at the empire in toto, we can see that, were population frozen for the next several turns, we would bring in 61 commerce per turn, losing 10 to corruption for a net inflow of 51 cpt. Since production is useless to analyze on an in toto basis, we shall view it in build turns. For normalization purposes, it will be expressed in turns to build an Immortal . We’ll go from 4 turns in Inner Sanctum to 2, the most dramatic boost outside of Aquarius. Sweet Desolation moves from 4 turns to 3. Aquarius can now build 5-turn Immortals, as opposed to 10 turns currently. The final three cities are going to be able to produce an Immortal every 10 turns, down from 30 and 15 currently.

With some forests and hills out there, we do have some micromanaging opportunities, which I won’t go into in detail because that’s better approached on a case by case basis each turn. Finally, and I know everyone here is aware of this, we have lots of work to be done. We need at least one extra worker, and preferably two or three.

Put an end to popups!

Great analysis Reverend, thanks

On the commerce side, it seems we will increase from a net of around 34 to 51, an increase of some 50%. We need to decide whether to dedicate this to research (bearing in mind the treaty we are currently negotiating with BOH), or perhaps try to save some cash for a couple of Warrior upgrades to assist us in prosecuting the Euphorican war a little more quickly, given our concerns about the fast tech pace.

From a production point of view, once the offensive begins and our GA starts, 2-turn and 3-turn Immortals in our 2 Barracks cities will be most excellent, and should allow us to send a steady stream of Immortals towards them, while discouraging other civs from any thought of attacking us.

Aquarius is now building our next Settler, and acting on the Reverend's advice I suggest we then pump out a few Workers in order to maximise land development for when our GA commences. As the Reverend correctly points out, we still have a few unimproved grassland tiles, and this is a sin during a GA.

Other thoughts from the Council of Desolators, please

Okay, new bottom lines, since all the flowery stuff is already in the report above:

Inner Sanctum: 12 c, 10 s (3 turn Immortals)
Sweet Desolation: 12 c, 8 s (4 turn Immortals)
Aquarius: 5 c, 5 s (6 turn Immortals)
Antioch: 5 c, 3 s (10 turn Immortals)
Marcopolis: 4 c, 2 s now, 4 s once the grass is mined (15/8 turn Immortals)
Bactra: 5 c, 3 s (10 turn Immortals)

Empire Total Commerce: 43, up from 32 currently.

Excellent analysis!

The only thing that comes into my mind is regarding what we use our gold for. Seeing as we are currently doing very well in the Demographics, and seeing as our GA will only boost this, we should actually be in the lead. I think our military will be strong enough to crush the feeble enemy withou any ugrades, let us save that cash for rushing libraries & other improvements when we have completed the change to our next goverment.

Give it another turn or two and I'll update for population and improvements. As far as what to spend the gold on, I'd say hold it, like Moonbars suggests, but don't hesitate to spend it on upgrades f the situation calls for them. Tomorrow I'll take a closer look at our tech situation, as far as how many turns the added commerce will shave, and where that means the science slider should be.
