A.C.S. Announces "CivIV" Coverage Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Apolyton Civilization Site ( http://apolyton.net ) [ACS], one the premiere online fansites for the Civilization computer strategy gaming series and its extended family, is today announcing its formal intention to cover the fourth incarnation of the Civilization series. From developer Firaxis Games and publisher 2K Games, a division of Take-Two Entertainment, comes Civilization IV with an anticipated release this coming winter. It is to be covered in full on ACS as are any and all expansion packs that may follow. News items for the up-and-coming title are currently housed in the ‘Miscellaneous’ section of the site, and will continue to be so until a complete section for CivIV is compiled and online.

"It is the long-standing endurance and superior reputation of the Civilization series that keeps us going", says ACS Co-Owner/Administrator Daniel “DanQ” Quick. "Almost seven years ago ACS was formed to better serve the growing Civ community online. Since then the strength of this community has permitted us the opportunities and resources to expand our quality coverage to closely related turn-based and even real-time strategy series. There has never been any doubt in our mind that should CivIV go into development, we would cover it too. We are pleased that our commitment can be realized".

ACS’ original coverage was limited to Civilization, Civilization II, and Civilization: Call to Power back when it officially launched in July of 1998. Since then, Apolyton has added coverage to Civilization III, Call to Power II, Alpha Centauri, Master of Orion III, the Galactic Civilizations series, Rise of Nations, the now-defunct Dinosaurs endeavour and numerous so-called ‘Alternative Civs’ most notably Freeciv.

Tired of ads?

I'd rather it be late then crap. Personally, I'd lock them in a room with nothing but a computer and CTP2 for a week or to so they can see how to design a good interface.

Perhaps they should use the smax engine and just fix the bugs.

Well the reason why Civ3 is so buggy is that it's based on an old enginee to start with. I say that I hope thay start from scratch rather than rying to same a few weeks of development byadapting obsolete code from an old game. That only creates bugs, trying to extend on an existing base.

Because Civ III eventually became a great game, albeit lacking in certain departments. Combine the greatness of SMAC with the best bits of Civ III and you would have a killer game IMO.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I think it can and may well be neither late nor crap. But what we should do is lock them up until the end of November with Civ2, Civ3, Colonization, Axis and Allies, Lord of the Rings, a manyvolume encyclopedia of world history, and access to our Civ4 forum, the CFC Civ4 forum, the CivWiki, and the Civ3 list. Maybe throw in a time machine somewhere too. They might need some food too. Maybe toss in the Dune strategy games. They can spend some of the time playing Risk and Chess too.

Well it haven´t happened so far, and Firaxis seems reluctant to dig up the old SMAC/X engine. But you never know, maybe a few years down the road? If there can be a Colonization II, there might very well be a SMAC/X II

It would´ve been a greater surprise if it were announced that they weren´t going to cover it.

Apolyton Civilization Site ( http://apolyton.net ) [ACS], one the premiere online fansites for the Civilization computer strategy gaming series and its extended family, is today announcing that they won´t cover the fourth incarnation of the Civilization series. From developer Firaxis Games and publisher 2K Games, a division of Take-Two Entertainment, comes Civilization IV with an anticipated release this coming winter. Judging by earlier promises this should probably be read as sometime in 2007.

"We won´t get our hopes up says Apolyton Co-Owner/Administrator Daniel "DanQ" Quick". "We won´t cover this, until Firaxis gets their **** together and give us a playable game right out of the box. A game that is seriously playtested and complete"

MarkG, the other Co-Owner/Administrator of Apolyton could not be reached for a comment at this time as he is chasing sheep in the hills of Greece.

Now that would be a surprise

Hi alva.

The formatting of the announcement corresponds to the news item. Given that the entire write-up is an Apolyton press release, I use the coloured text to indicate "speech" and quotation marks within to indicate speaking within the press release itself (if you follow ).

Still, given the different themes available on the forums I will consider removing the coloured text from the forum versions of such write-ups (thread and announcement texts) in future releases.

Full PM-box? Change here!

To the list of games to keep Firaxis company in their swotbox (*) I would add Master of Magic, so that SidCo get the concept that enjoyable combat is not only for Pirates! and Antietam!

(*) I imagine the cramped, spartan cell that candidates for academic degrees had to spend weeks in while studying and doing their exams during Chinese imperial times.
