*looks at "sin city" as locale. The Strip isn't in Vegas. It's outside the city. :P Isn't the actual city of Las Vegas considered a bad place to be?

My city never has depressions. Although my city is unique as it's a major tourist attraction that is guranteed to take tourists money.

See above question.

and what city actually crashes? You don't see cities go out of business. All cities grow. Just some grow more than others. actually I should add that not all cities grow in population. Because cities like Detroit are losing population to cities like mine. |
Camden, NJ. Chester, PA. Brownsville, PA. Atlantic City, NJ (then gambling was legalized there). Detroit, MI. Pittsburgh, PA. Philadelphia, PA. Baltimore, MD. Newark, NJ. New York, NY.
These cities have gone through tremendous economic, population, criminal, and social hurts in recent years (70s-early 80s).
The first three on my list there are still horribly depressed with little hope for any real recovery.
All cities go through boom and bust.

I can give you the best gaurantee money can buy that gambling revenue would not cut any taxes here--we need as much money as we can get, and since the state Constitution forbids running a deficit, the Legislature had to pass a 1 cent sales tax increase last year.
The money would likely all go to educational building renovation and replacement--a state study said we needed billions to repair our schools. Some of the items were just plain silly (like air conditioners for a school barn) but outside of larger better-maintained (aka city) districts it really is as bad as it sounds.
Oh, and Dissident, I have good news--I heard on the radio that for the 2004 year we gained 600 new jobs in Ouachita County (although presumably population still somehow managed to decline.) Then the news announcer dampened my spirits with the reminder that that was the largest increase since 1978. But we can hope. Maybe when (if) the state gets that new huge auto plant they can put it here (good bucking luck).
