Having been there I will say I quite enjoyed the River Walk and the Alamo but nothing struck me as outstandingly excellent that would vault this place over other cities. In fact I really like Calgary and region. I know its cold here but for an aspiring skier thats a plus

My San Antonio is generally NOT regarded as the 'coolest' around here, Austin usually get that title, but its a great place for families, and pays decent commercial rents while being partly immune from economic downturns.

Yep, Austin. Your reeking swamp full of cockroaches Houston gets repution for business, smoke filled rooms, industry, oil magnates, sports, and some music (but stangely not for zydeco, which was invented and eveloped there, rather than Lousisana) but Austin get the rep for music, youth fun, high tech, lifestyle, and cool.

There was a study recently that showed that cities where there are large gay populations are among the most liveable places in America. Apparently, urban gay people want certain services and quality of life and so they tend to create communities that are more interesting and liveable.

The epitcenter of gravity for Texas style BBQ appears to be halfway between Austin & Houston, around Lockhart.

While austin has a history of a fun night life its to crowded Houston has one of the prettiest skylines but again way too crowded and humid. The dallas fort worth area very large as well. While they all have their positives i would still choose to live in san antonio. I admit the night life in sa is not has hopping as 6th street in austin, but austin is close enough to go enjoy it then come home to a quiet place to rest.
