I got this Nokia ADSL modem from a friend, but no one seems to be able to say if it supports the G.DMT standard. is there any way to determine this? Thereīs nothing written on the modem itself to shed light over this. Just some random (?) numbers...

pchang, no model number AFAIK. But there is a string of numbers on a sticker with a barcode. 61002810957 followed by T66250.05....B I tried to google the latter one, but I got no hits. Maybe I can hook it up to the computer and query it or something...

Turn it on and hook your computer up to it. Make sure your computer is set for DHCP. Check the IP gateway on your computer. This will be the IP address of the ADSL modem. Most likely it has a web interface and you can hook up to it from the computer http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address. Most likely there will be a username and password required. The defaults are usually user = admin and password = admin or or password (in that order).

Is it worth it to buy a water-cooled or 'fanless' case to cut down on noise?

Owner of shop I was checking it out sez yes. Owner walks out, employee sez no, waste of money.

Check on the Nokia webite, they may have images of their products. If all else fails, send technical support an e-mail message.

UR, I tried that. Nokia says theyīve sold the modems and the support to Telia (phone company/ISP) and refuses to help me. But when I phoned Telia they claim that they donīt use Nokia modems... At this point I gave up

I guess you just try the darn thing out at this point. Connect it to an ADSL line, then connect your router-switch or computer to it. Then try to connect. I assume you know what to do at this point.
