anyways I came back from my self appointed poly vacation to post in this thread (and for my itunes question)

You know, I've met a group of American jewish univesity / college students who were visiting Israel this week as part of the Birthright Israel program, and most of them were from San Diego. I must say, you sport some cool characters

The city is one of the top tourist destinations in the US so there are tons of things to do here. What you decide to do kind of depends upon your circumstances; families like to go to theme parks like Legoland, if you are at all interested in animals then the World Famous San Diego Zoo is widely seen as the world's best zoo with the most animals and the best displays while the associated San Diego Wild Animal Park lets the animals run free while the people get moved around on a monorail or in large buses. It's kind of nice to see the people caged and the animals running free. Then there's Sea World which has more animal attractions but with a marine bent to it.

Balboa Park has the largest collection of museums west of the Mississippi and is a gorgeously manicured park with architecture done in a Spanish Baroque style and was built for the 1915 World's Fair. Downtown you can catch a baseball game at the new downtown ball park or you can go for a night on the town in San Diego's Historic Gas lamp District (the area is named after the old gas power street lamps which used to light the neighborhood before electric lights were invented). The WW2 era USS Midway has been added to the cities Naval Museum and is open for tours as are a number of other ships including the Star of India which is one of the few surviving 19th century tall ships in the world. The USS Pacific Fleet is also headquartered here so you can often see 3-4 aircraft carriers including the brand new USS Ronald Reagan (the world's largest and the first of a brand new design class) in the harbor.

There are numerous little beach towns with white sandy beaches from La Jolla to Del Mar which are perfect for walking and browsing during a day trip. Mexico is just 25 minutes south and day trips down to Baja are always fun. If you like the outdoors then over 50% of the county (the country is larger then the states of New Jersey, Delaware, and Massachusetts combined) is protected parkland made up of National Forests, State Parks, National Wildlife Refuges, National Monuments, and County parks. Some of the highlights include Cabrillo National Monument (where European explores first set foot in what is now the western part of the US), Anza Borrego Desert State Park (located east of the Coastal Mountains it show cases some of the best of the western American Deserts), and Rancho Cuyamaca State Park (located high up in the Coast Range this park gets over 120 inches of rain per year making it heavily forested). The city is also about a 4-5 hour drive from the Grand Canyon and about a 3-4 hour drive to Las Vegas.

3 to 4 hours from Las Vegas? I think not. Maybe if you drive 150 mph.

I forget how long it took me to get down there, I think 7 or 8 hours.

grand canyone will take you longer. I like San Diego, it seems a lot more laid back than Los Angeles. You don't hear of freeway shootings there like you do in LA.

I didn't touch any of them. All I said was that some of the cities were over run with hookers along with fat nasty western "touists" who were seeking out their "services".
