Yes it does help. Thanks for taking the time to make such a detailed reply.

Whenever the topic of "the ideal place to live" comes up in a conversation, I am usually told that SD is the place where I would be happy, after they listen to what I find important in a hometown. I've even been told on occasion that I have a "California attitude". Not sure if that is a compliment or what..
Dont know how I developed that attitude having lived on the East Coast all my life.. I am looking forward to travelling to SD sometime in September..

San Diego is fabulous, except for that damn Marine Layer....

Does that affect everyone, or only the people who live in Ocean Beach, Point Loma, etc....?

If you go a few miles inland the marine layer goes away. Typically it is a beach effect which only happens in the early morning or late afternoon during the colder 6 months of the year.

I had forgotten and agreed to baby sit for my sister. Her step daughter is graduating from High School tomorrow so she asked me to baby sit the other kids. For some reason I thought it was going to be next week so it looks like I won't be able to make it.

anyways, it was a pretty good trip. I got there in 4 hours and 20 minutes. my best time yet . I'm like George on Seinfeld, I have to make good time. I was driving over 80 miles an hour nearly the entire way. The only traffic I hit was in Las Vegas. Which goes to show you we have more traffic than southern California. . Okay, okay, I didn't actually go into Los Angeles, I know they have more traffic.

That was 4 hours and 20 minutes from Spring Mountain, and I-15 in Las Vegas, to hotel circle on I-8 in San Diego.

I rented a Chevy Aveo. 2 days rental was pretty cheap. And I spent less than $50 on gas. So I ended up paying about the same price I would have payed if I drove my pickup. Because my pickup uses twice as much gas. This little car was pretty powerful. I had no problem doing 85 mph doing up the mountains. And people feel the need to drive SUV's. . Yes I know, I drive a big vehicle too, but I actually take mine off road and go camping in it. Though I think it still might be cheaper to by a chevy aveo, and rent a larger vehicle to go camping, as I don't go as often as I would like (difficult to get time off). but my point is, americans do not need 8 or even 6 cylinder engines. If my little ass car could do 85 mph up those mountains with a 4 (it might be 3 for all I know about it) cylinder engine, then that should be sufficient. I passed all these other supposedly powerful SUV's like they were standing still.

I'm too lazy to do the math, but I suppose you could do the trip in 3 hours if you drove about 100 mph. You have to time it just right to avoid the rush hours though. In Las Vegas, our rush hour is all day long. Traffic is heavy till about 9 or 10 o clock at night, then finally things start to die down. Except for the Las Vegas strip (and surrounding areas like Koval lane and Paradise), there, it doesn't die down until 3 or 4 o' clock in the morning.

I wrote you guys the day before to tell you. Sorry, but I mixed up the dates and agreed to baby sit for my sister's three kids while she and her husband went to her step daughter's high school graduation.

If it matters screaming kids and dirty daipers weren't as fun.

I guess I could have brought them to the bar but something tells me their parents would have freaked out.

So what'd you guys end up doing? Dave & Busters then some where else for dinner or did you just drink and play video games? That basketball game at D&B is pretty addictive. I must have spent $10-$15 on it.

If I was there I would have suggested hitting up Extraordinary Desserts as it is the most incredible coffee shop/dessert place I've ever seen. The chief is a master.

We ended up eating there, and doing a little drinking. Then playing some games. Ghost Recon (I think that was the name) mostly. And some other games.

I had been drinking most of the day . I was on my way to Dave and Busters, but I got sidetracked at Hooters . Sure we have one in Vegas I think, but it seems pointless as the casino waitresses wear just as skimpy clothing as hooters girls usually. But these girls were fairly hot. Though they seemed underdressed . It was cold out. Yes San Diego feels cold to me. It didn't rain thursday, but it was cloudy. First time I've been inside a hooters in about 8 years.

But we don't have a Dave and Busters in Vegas. My points are useless. . Not that I got that many. We don't have anything like D&B's here. We do have arcades in the casinos, that's all we have.

So what's the deal with smoking in bars and restuarants? Is that not allowed anymore? I don't smoke of course. At first I didn't notice it. In fact, was it this way 2 years ago as well? I didn't even notice.

Is it just bars with restaurants or all bars? I thought I saw an English guy smoking in the old town tavern (but I may be mistaken). That was my first stop wednesday for drinks . And they had Newcastle on tap as well. D&B's also had Newcastle brown ale on tap, but it was a bit more expensive. Even Hooters had Newcastle on tap. So nice

And out of couriosity, how much would those condos on de la reina (I can't remember the actual name of the road) by the Hooters rent out for? I saw a sign that said they were for rent, but it didn't say how much.

Not that I'm going to move there or anything. I do love San Diego, but I doubt I could afford to live there. I would have no idea how to get a job there.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Officially smoking inside is against state law but there are a few loop hole which smart bars take advantage off. For instance if a bar is also a "tabacco shop" then you can smoke in it so several places sell a small selection of cigs and cigars then declare themselves tabacco shops and everyone smokes as they please.
