	Computer problem, please help!! Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Okay, this is the deal. I just upgraded my parents OS from win2k pro to XP pro. Now, i cannot make a dial up connection.

If i try through the new connection wizard, I just don't get the option. If i try by going to the IE properties box, and do it there, I get a 711 error.

The problem is with my services. Plug and Play is running, but the Remote Access Connection Manager will not start. I am logged in as Administrator, but when i try to start the process it says Permission denied. Any idea how to start this?

upgrading seems to cause many problems.

my solution: format c: . and do a clean install of windows XP.

I did a clean install of windows xp pro on my mother's comuter. I didn't even have to set anything up that I can remember. I just installed AOL, and everything worked pretty much as it should.

yeah, i almost always do clean installs...i was just being lazy gaaaaaaaaaaaaaah...maybe installing sp2 will fix it...

sp2 only allows 10 tcp connections, so if they ever get broadband then they may experience slower connections. I had a cable connection and the pages loaded considerably slower after installing sp2. then i needed a new hard drive, mine died...

SP2 allows for considerably more than 10 TCP connections.

I know this because I regularly have over 500 open for various P2P programs, and my Linux-based Linksys router constantly locks up under the load.

What you're thinking of is the new limit of 10 new connection attempts per second, which was unlimited in SP1.

As for the OP, I don't use dialup. No clue.
