The issue isn't the show. The show may be art, and it may have a place.

The issue is the 'art' being on basic cable when my god-damned-****ing twelve year old nephews may stumble into it. You can bet your boots on that.

That's why I said the broadcaster should be sanctioned, not the show.

Why should the cable company be responsible for controlling your twelve year old nephews? You don't like it? Don't get cable. You want cable, then monitor your nephews' TV habits.

I was 12 once. I was told what I could and couldn't watch, and my parents (and grandmother) enforced that. Sure, I caught the occasional risque program, but has that really ****ed me up?

When you're 12, you watch what your parents let you watch. If they let you watch anything, you watch anything.

Its the parents/guardians job to police the TV at that point. I fully intend to police what my children watch just like I would expect any other parent/guardian to

No it isn't. The public own the airwaves; they don't own the cable system. Hence, the cable people are freer to put what they want on it.

Any goon can hook up a TV and watch the public channels for nothing. You enter into a private contract with the cable company for their content -- that's different.

Using your logic we should ban the internet, since everyone has access and kids might see videos of Johnny Huge giving Missy Scarlet a vaginaful.

The truth is that private companies who provide services are under no obligation to make sure that your children watch suitable TV -- that's your responsibility. If you think it's that bad, cancel the service. You're paying for it after all.

Besides that, Art has always had principles. It appears you missed my point: a bag of **** on fire (the original bag, from the original post) isn't art, because it doesn't have context or meaning. The only way it becomes art is if the artist who consiously chose to use a flaming bag of **** does so with the intention of making the audience feel in some way about the flaming bag of ****. This is preciesely why a flaming bag of **** isn't art, because no one will accept it as art. It is not in the eye of the beholder any more than math or science is.

Just because I say the world is flat doesn't make it so. Just because you say a flaming bag of **** is art doesn't make it so.
