Well Boco I began this task thinking the end result wouldn't be up to par, but to my surprise they don't look that bad. Luckily the reduction didn't effect any of the important symbol graphics, so all the flags should be easy to make out at first glance.

In my opinion though this is just about as far down as they can be reduced in size.

They do reduce well (even the Gurkha vs the Saudi shields) , but you really shouldn't encourage my obsessive ways! Fairline already does that very well.

What should I use for a U-Boat ensign?

I'm afraid that the Bersaglieri and RHA units are not in v2.

Let's see for v2, I need a red ensign, but that's a cinch from your Canadian button. One icon represents artillery from the Indian, French, and Egyptian armies. I can modify the RFA shield to have only a blue background for that. Only thing missing is a generic anchor for 3 icons that represent Naval Infantry, Destroyers, and Gunboats from the Royal, French, Indian, and Egyptian navies.

Btw, can you post a signature that I can put in my units file?

Well I took a shot at some possible artillery shields, naval shields as well as a blank Red Ensign, a blank Blue Ensign and the flag of the Imperial German Navy. I have to say of all the flags that were reduced in size the G.I.N. shield lost the most in detail. The eagle at the center, the iron cross on the black white and red banner all had to be lost.

Let me know what the verdict is.

This is really helpful! The Bersaglieri badge is so good that I decided to use it for the generic Gendarmes slot. The German Ensign works well. Yes, it's impossible to put in all the detail, but you managed to keep to the overall scheme very well. These look good even at shift-z zoom.

I'm opting for the smaller shields for now. When it's ready for beta, I'll let testers decide between regular and petite.

Many thanks.

Sarsstock, this time it really is my last request (at least for this scenario )...

I would need shield + flag showing a blood-red "Omega" (the Greek letter) on a white background, could you do that for me?? I would be really grateful!

PS: and you'll see the results of all your hard work on my behalf in 1-2 weeks

Suffering from ads?

Say Chris, those button shields are great (I have yet to see how they look in-game, but I look forward to it), however, could I get just six more to finish my set? I need a Yen symbol (preferably yellow on a green backdrop like most trade units), your engineer shield, your generic artillery shield, your AA shield, your generic naval shield, and a nuclear symbol, if I could so trouble you. I'd really appreciate it if you could help me with this. Thanks!

First off, Cyrion here's that blood red "Omega" on the white banner you had requested. I can't wait to see some armies carry all of these flags into combat when the project is complete .

Second, I have the generic button shields for Patine. In order of appearance we have the generic tank shield, armored car shield, naval shield, artillery shield, nuclear shield, infantry shield, anti aircraft shield, engineering shield, european merchant shield, and finally the asian merchant shield you had requested.

I'll PM you a link to the playtest version before the end of next week, so that you can see that I only discarded 2 of the flags (and not because of their quality, of course! only because you provided others that were even better! )

And combat there will be...

I have a question for you Cyrion. What do you think of using circular shields in your scenario for MGE such as the ones I have provided Patine with for his EOTRS ToT scenario?

It is possible to position them in a way so that the health bar is still clearly visable above the shield. Let me know if your interested.

Thanks Sarsstock! I think your circular shields look wonderful, but I quite like the ones you already provided!

And I think the "shield-like" shape looks good on med-fan units!

And last, just 2 questions for you (being the "flag-guru", you probably know the answers):

1) I want to change the colour of the city-size display (do you understand what I mean??), and I believe it is set by a pixel in the flag graphic: which one is that??

2) the flag you drew for the Kobolds seem to be positioned on the city differently from the other ones: is there a way I can set a flag position on a city, or am I just mistaken??

Say, Chris, could I ask one more thing (for now, at least)? I need the RAF, USAAF, Soviet air, and nuclear buttons miniaturized, like you did for Boco, otherwise they won't fit in (the planes I have take up a lot of the box they occupy). If you could do this, I'd be most obliged, as usual.

Well I'm not sure these are totally necessary Patrick, a great many units partially block the shields in unit graphics all the time. Having said that I made these shields up plus a correction of the first Soviet Air Force button shields. Maybe if I have the time in a little bit I will make up all the WW2 shields in small button form as the small buttons seem to be more popular than I thought they'd be.

Also, I have some busy days and likely weeks ahead of me for a while so sadly I might not be able to help out with any flags for a little bit.

Sorry all...

Finally Cyrion, sorry for not getting back to you sooner but YES there is a way to manipulate all the elements you have mentioned. I will get back to you very soon about them all.

Now for that lesson in city graphic placement I had promised. First off there are two sets of dots who's positoin on the green border/frame will determine where the city's flag and size number will be positioned.

First the orange dots circled in red, they indicate the position of the city size number.

Second the blue dots circled in purple indicate the position of the city flag. For best use of the city graphics it might be wise using trial and error to find the best positoin away from the city buildings to position the flag and size number as to not hide the city design or the flag itself.

If anyone has any further information on this topic please feel free to offer it.

Last but not least we have the lesson on flags themselves. Flags have two colour indicators built in, I seem to remember there being a third but its much less important and only indicates the colour of a unit stack.

The pixel being pointed at by the yellow arrows indicate the colour that will apear on any unit shield (as long as the shield isn't coloured over by a custom made shield made by yours truly ) as well as the colour that will apear in the city size display.

The red arrow pointing to the bar of colour just above the green frame/border indicates what colour will be used for the city names, as well as the colour that will represent the cities on the world map in the corner window of your screen.

Once again if anyone has anything else to add to this please don't hesitate.

Hey, Chris, don't mean to push, but is there any chance I could also get a miniaturized Australian Air Force button shield (a white dot surrounded by a blue circle) and either a miniaturized WW2 Japanese Air Force button shield or (if it's as I suspect and such a separate branch didn't exist, but all aircraft were divided between the IJA and IJN) separate miniaturized Japanese Army and Navy button shields? I'd be most grateful.

The seventh pixel from the left on the same row as the main flag colour pixel is used to define the colour of flags of units in a stack underneath the visible unit.

Well boy is my face red, I honestly thought the orange dots controlled the position of the size tag but it looks like I was wrong.

Does anybody out there know how you can set the position of the city size tag in the cities.png graphic?
