Ehm, no, we were Habsburgian/Spanish then, not German. And Dutch has been distinct from German as a language since early Medieval times, though it's true that the local dialects in the east are Lower Saxon, so they have more in common with German than Dutch. But that does not mean that the Dutch states have always been geo-politically distinct from the German ones, as they fell under Burgundy rule (and before then they were largely independent, they were only nominally part of the HRE).

He was also quoted as saying that the Church's sex abuse scandals weren't real and that communists, atheists, people from other religions were making it up and feeding it to the media in order to discredit the Catholic church.
