For starters a few minor things:

FL: put "stockpile energy" in the build queue.
Move the damaged CDF into FL. Start moving the CDF already in FL to AU to free up the two garrisons there.

Move the IH commando hoplite to the Liberty monolith.

Move the missile artillery in SC1 to the Olympian monolith.

Rehome FB B-4 in SC3 to SC3.

Oh yeah, there's probably a foreign unit in the encircled area, as it wasn't yet uncovered last year.

A wild idea in case we have needlejets to spare. We could help the Hive capture that Gaian base...

Hey, I wonder if the possibility exists of infiltrating the Data Angels via GeoMatrix?

As for using a needlejet against the Gaians, we have to be aware of the possibility of the Gaians probing back their base from Yang, as well as probing all kinds of other goodies. It would be better if we could count on Yang to protect his new acquisitions with probe defenders, but we can't.

Well, assuming that the IoD doesn't attack and weaken the Disco Volante, I'd be in favor of taking a peek at the base anyway in passing.

But having had probe teams from 2101, I can't believe that the Angels would leave their sea-bases undefended - plus have a ship blocking access to their large lagoon - Seraph's Wing Bay.

they only have a handful of seabases anyway .........

And well defended, I agree. Perhaps they even planned it so that they would be hard to infiltrate. I doubt we can ever make an entrance, except with a large force of Probes.

Well, in an old PBEM I was "had" by Misotu, when I thought I had adequate probe defenders in all my bases

She released 3 mindworms to the wild just beside one of my bases which then proceeded to take out an infantryman defenderand my probeteam, then next turn she wizzed in and got my datafiles

Sneaky (she was the Gaians)

We are taking about the Angels, though — about the only people still trusting us to some extent in this game. While what you are saying is a good idea for the future, I doubt we can afford to lose whatever credibility we have left. Not just yet.

Turn's up!!

Some rushes we can/should make this turn:

Fungiformer at Fort Liberty for 26 credits
Fungiformer at Ironholm for 18 credits
Crawler at Rio Grande for 6 credits
Crawler at Santiago Citadel for 12 ec's

Nothing else warrants rushing this turn, unless we need some mop-up credits for instabuilds

MY-2168

First moves:

  • put "stockpile energy" in FL’s build queue
  • SC3’s crawler on the crater forest set to work crawling minerals.
  • Damaged CDF moved into FL.
  • Start moving the CDF already in FL to AU to free up the two garrisons there.
  • IH commando hoplite moved to the Liberty monolith = now Elite.
  • the missile artillery in SC1 sent to the Olympian monolith – now Elite
  • FB B-4 in SC3 rehomed to SC3.
  • Brought the 3 damaged Penetrators on Morgan’s east coast back to Fort Buster’s Aerospace center for Repaits
  • Argos’ damaged B-4 on Morgan’s west coast brought back to Gagarin Memorial en-route to Fort Soup and repair
  • Minas Tirith B-4 (running CAP duty) returned to MT the long way round to see if those Hive units have redeployed – they haven’t. And some of their “recalled-to-base” troops have now left the base – I wonder where to?
See pic below:

some further moves:

  • AU's crawler and Irobholm's crawler sent to FS to proto unit there, then retired. Changed production to a Tree farm and rushed with 44 credits )next turn we can let FS grow, or reassign a crawler to minerals convoying)
  • Fungiformer at FL rushed for 26 credits
  • Fungiformer at Ironholm rushed for 24 credits (it's crawler was deployed to FS, so the rush price increased)
  • Crawler rushed at Rio Grande for 6 credits
  • Crawler rushed at Santiago Citadel for 12 credits
  • 2 Tomcats completed sensor at Minas Tirith turned loose to plant a farm there on that rolling rainy tile
  • Returned FL's Skanky to the monolith to heal prior to another round of worm-hunting
  • Sent the Unity Rover at MT up the Rojo and into the fungal wall, but no luck with worms this sortie

Reserves now stand at 180 ec's

MY-2168 further moves:

  • Messena’s (now) Elite hoplite moved from OA’s monolith north, to join the road back to Messena for garrison duty (pop expands to 3 in 2172
  • Tomcat-RG moved SW to join the Messena road to the OA monolith road – after completion will join its FB buddy two tiles north for farming there
  • changed 2NS tomcat orders to roadbuilding, then forest
  • Iaca’s infantryman meets a spore launcher – captures it!
  • Moved TH’s worker to the nut special, and the crawler north to convoy minerals
  • FL’s AA down the road towards the NN at Tegea Harbour
  • sent FS’s B-4 to destroy the fungal tower at Mendelev College, but the odds were 3:4 against, so headed for Gagarin Memorial suburbs to put on a show for the population there
  • Took the Njord out of range of Argi’s soon-to-be-commissioned Missile Tactical Noodle, and twinned it with the General Tacticus (Morgan has no ‘Gator Boats but there might be a probe team on a trannie)
  • ran a 4-tile sortie with the F-6 at GM to see if it had better odds against that fungal tower – 3:3 (actually something like 4.37 to 4.12) so I desisted and returned to base
  • moved the units heading to MT into base, there to await the arrival of the Cruiser Transport to take them .... where?
  • put crawlers everywhere in the builds as a holding measure
  • changed production at SC2 (the other “retire this” design) to a Children’s Crèche for future popbooming

MY-2168 cont …….

Some terraforming orders:

  • Tomcat OA2 (on monolith n ofSC2) moves onto rainy river crater tile nw of SC2 and commences farming
  • Took Vlad's worker off the 2/1/0 tile onto the 3/0/0 seakelp tile to boost pop growth (no effect on crawler production - still next turn)
  • Tomcat SCW-2 moves thru FB heading for the airbase build slated for 50:8
  • Tomcat FB-2 moves towards airbase site stopping at 53:11 – a flat, rainy, crater tile, so whiles away the time by farming there (SCW-2 can assist next turn before they head off for the airbase build, if that is still a priority
Additional unit moves – navy
  • Moved the slow tramp steamer up towards Cape Wrath en-route to our west coast - where Modo had pointed it last turn (but wasn’t it going to be a Homeland-Arcadia ferry?)
  • Coastguard Cutter Minas Tirith and cuiser trannie into MT – to do what?
  • Heimdall to the monolith on Gaia’s east coast – disembarked R0112 there to heal – and the Unity rover to stack and avoid probe action (upgraded to Commando in the process)
  • Moved the Coastguard Cutter Iaci to tagteam with the Heimdall
  • Moved the Pegasus up towards the Styx channel, and the Invincible to tag team with it
  • Transport foil (from Vlad – don’t remember its name) up thru the Styx channel

Save attached

Let me know if you get a reload message. I started this official turn last evening on my laptop, then saved and this morning copied over the save on my desktop overriding the original turn (which I’d opened last evening for the screenies before I realized I should play the turn) I got a reload warning the first time I opened the overrode save but amn’t getting one any more. Odd that it should give it then retract it

Heya, no reload warnings for me.

Turn looks alright to me.

Gee, you think the Morgans are sending us some kind of message with their production queues? Missile tacticals in nearly every base. And they're trying to fool us too. In Argi Narnia they may claim to be building a missile tactical, but they're not, that sucker only costs 3 rows - prototype and all! That's a renamed laser tactical

Googlie, please, quit the Crawler frenzy already.

List of cities that could be switched to Rec Tanks:

  • Fort Buster
  • Arcadia University
  • Minas Tirith
  • Tegea Harbour
  • Fort Buster
  • Sector Craterwest

The thing is, we need the food, not only the production the Crawlers are bringing. Also, we are running short on good tiles to Crawl, so we must take a break. Rec Tanks can be built quickly or rushed relatively cheap in most bases. Besides food and production, they would boost the economy somewhat, which seems to be more than needed...

Once we get more Forests, we can get more Crawlers out, but it makes little sense to keep building them now.

The crawlers aren't for crawling anything

Using the maniac manouever, rec commons and/or creches, etc, can be rushed far cheaper by crawler-prototyping-retiring than conventionally - cf the Tree Farm completing next turn in FS

hence the proliferation of crawlers

eg, a 12 mineral base takes 3 turns + 8 ec's to build rec tanks from scratch (ie, tanks are operational in turn 4). However, it takes 2 turns plus 15 ec's to rush the crawler, then next turn builds the rec tanks (ie, operational in turn 3)

Even more dramatic when a high-mineral base can shuttle a crawler to a low-minerals one for prototype/retire conversion

Some additional unit movements:

  • Moved the Elited hoploite at SC's monolith down to Gythium Harbour
  • Moved the B-4 at Craterwest to Minas Tirith - will assist in CAP operations with Hive units in the vicinity
  • Loaded the transport at Minas tirith with the Steppenwolf, the missile rover and both missile infantrymen, and sent it to the fungus in the Straits of laconia, with the SCC Minas Tirith as cover. Kepp our options open with that instaforce
  • sent a B-4 from Craterwest to provide air cover for the fleet, lest the hive decide to sneak attack with an arty barrage
  • ran a B-4 sortie from Craterwest to Rio Grande, up the offshore fungus, to sniff out anyhting that might be lurking there
  • Put 2NS new unit on garrison duty
  • Moved Craterwest's injured B-4 to FB to heal to 100% at the Aerospace center there
  • Put a fungal gin freighter in build at Minas Tirith, 2 Nuts Strand and Iaci, as the Disco Volante will pop a pod next turn and I'm not sure which of these 3 bases is closest
All units have now completed their moves, so turn is set to go

The turn looks great. Some questions/suggestions:

How about rehome the OA B-4 to SC3 (where it currently is)? Focuses more of our air unit support to SC3, freeing up minerals elsewhere.

What would happen if that Hive unit moved into the mineral forest? Given the focus of the AI on nutrient production, won't we run the risk that the worker relocates to a rolling-rainy tile instead of the four-min mine? If that happens, we'd run out of minerals and some units would be disbanded. To prevent this, how about relocating the 2-1-0 worker to the mine for now?

quote:
Tomcat SCW-2 moves thru FB heading for the airbase build slated for 50:8

IIRC you suggested to build an airbase on (47.17). That's why the unit moved south last turn. (Though of course, an airbase around that location is also useful.)

Regarding Tomcats FB2 & OA1. Those are both cultivating a farm on a flat rainy tile with a river. Of course a personal opinion, but is it worth building a farm on those instead of a forest? 1-2-2 instead of 3-0-1? Especially since we can build tree farms, and can build condensers on rolling tiles if we want, 3-0-1 doesn't seem that good a production to me.

quote:
changed production at SC2 (the other “retire this” design) to a Children’s Crèche for future popbooming

I assume you meant OA. There's little terraformation around that base though, so it would take a long time before it's ready for popbooming. Therefore how about changing that production to a crawler (and hurry it a mineral IIRC)? Then we can use it to build infrastructure in the Laconian or crater bases, which are the most terraformed bases on our Peloponessos continent, and thus most easy to popboom at the moment.

quote:
hence the proliferation of crawlers

I agree. We could use a couple more formers though in Peloponessos to build terraformations faster. Therefore how about switching production in GH and SC3 to formers? Those bases are among the least productive we have anyway, so I guess it's better to build the cheap and easily hurryable units there.

A minor Crypteia matter: I noticed the Crypteia in SC4 is put on hold. How about moving it to GH, and moving the Crypteia currently in GH to MT? That is, when we're planning to take over Hivean bases in the near future at least, and could use some probe defences. If we don't plan that, moving the probe to MT wouldn't be necessary I assume.

I made the move, but would the hive re-enter our territory just 1 turn after withdrawing? Moot anyway, as I say, as I've taken your suggestion

It was only to help faster pop-booming - the treefarms are still a few turns away - after creches and maybe even rec tanks and rec commons - so the extra nuts give us the boost as soon as creches are built and we change to DEM

Nobiggie, though, as the forests are good for minerals to speed the facilities, etc, so it's 6 o' one, etc.

Made the suggested change

Done (but it'd have been better just to contine the firsat probe onwards - it's Elite and would ahve reached MT next turn, whereas the MT one that tagteamed is only veteran, and will take 2 turns to reach MT from where it's parked. No matter - we aren't about to take a base next turn anyway!! (unless it's a Gaian one)

Turn complete

(Hasn't been sent on yet - we still have a few hours, so I'll wait to see if there is general acceptance of selling docair to the Angels (use the argument that they won't need to steal it from Yang and risk his wrath)

100 ec's sound good?

I'd wait a turn before trying with the PK's 'cos if we do sell it now they might sell to the Angels this next turn, before we get a chance

Rats - in a parallel diplomacy turn usage I called him to see if he'd be interested in Doc:Air or if he'd harp on about Doc Init - never got as far as asking 'cos he cancelled the pact then.

So had scrupulously avoided contacting him in the game turn, but I guess he calls at the turn's end.
