I recently bought myself a new laptop, and one of the first things I did was to borrow a friend's Planetary Pack and install it. After patching and applying the no-cd cracks, I've found that SMAC works like a charm, but SMAX don't. If I use "Start Game", it crashes just as the pod falling sequence begins, with a "terranx.exe has encountered an error blah blah" message, but using "Quick Start" and "Scenario" I can play just fine. I've tried monkeying around with the Alpha Centauri.ini file, and I've tried Safedisc Annihilator, but no luck. Any ideas?

No specific error, just the standard windows "terranx.exe has encountered an error and must shut down". The only information to be gleaned from that error message is this:
AppName: terranx.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: terranx.exe
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 002454fb
Dunno if it helps any...
