The way I see it, they are ready to cave in even with some repayment. Its just a question of how much.
And whats up with the Gaians leaving?

We got the upper hand so remain firm on a repayment. But I'm not sure if the morgans are willing to pay 400 even if they've got the money... thats alot of credits.

How about we drop the 50 ECs for the destroyed probe and just have them pay us the EthCalc balance in full. That way we can "start from scratch" diplomatically without any past agreements hanging over both of our heads. We could argue that this would be good for us both, as it would make future diplomacy between the Spartans and the Morganites more straightforward and not hinging on past agreements or transgression. We could say, if you are willing to pay up the EthCalc balance in full immediately, we are willing to start over with a blank slate with you diplomatically and forget all of the stuff about the 50 ECs for the probe, the mind-controlling of the Hunter, etc.

How about :
quote:
In principle, the Federation is willing to consider dealing with the Corporation from a fresh perspective, but first we must insist that due payments unlawfully withheld be repaid immediately.
We refer, of course, to the 48 credits' suspended payments for Ethical Calculus, and the 50 credits that were unilaterally deducted from due payments by the Corporation
If, in this 2169 year the Corporation can make restitution of these basic amounts, then the Federation will be open to negotiation regarding other real or perceived past injustices - on both sides.
Without this clearing of the initial debt, however, the Junta struggles to see how a fresh start could be possible.

Here's my amended version:
If, in this next Mission Year - 2170 - the Corporation can make restitution of these basic amounts, then the Federation will be open to negotiation regarding other real or perceived past injustices - on both sides. In addition, the Federation will be prepared to sign a Formal Truce in 2170, such truce to last until such time as differences are resolved, and we can proceed to treaty or even Pact status, or are deemed irreconcilable by both parties, in which case an uneasy truce will continue at the pleasure of the Corporation and the Federation together.
Without this clearing of the initial debt, however, the Junta struggles to see how a fresh start could be possible.
Note, however, that we have honoured the cease fire while this Conference is in session, notwithstanding the undermining of genuine peace efforts by some attendees who have been active in ensuring the widespread proliferation of Air Power throughout Chiron
