Tired of ads?

I quite liked the "longreach" reference - it kinda reminds everyone that we have a large airforce, and that our navy is still the only one that can move 9 tiles in 1 turn (elite cruiser hull) versus everyone else's measly 4 tiles (or 5 if they ever got a foil to elite status)

Plus, as you conced, it is (in the RP context) quite appropriate

The test will be if the gaians try to attack those 2 units healing at the monolith. I must admit I miscalculated where their base was when I landed the injured rover - I though it was on the mountaintop. Now, though, I see that the Gaians could send a unit from the base downriver (the base must be on that river) and still have a short at us (hasty penalty if an infantry unit, not so if a mindworm)

And they've passed on the turn without comment to us re my "rerassurance letter" on our intentions there.

Usually Googlie is a bit too open in negotiations for my taste. However, this time I must agree - the long reach is a nice touch.

So is there any kind of concensus that I should post the piece to the Conference thread?

The way I see it, they are ready to cave in even with some repayment. Its just a question of how much.

And whats up with the Gaians leaving?

GeoModder has asked this question of both Sparta and Morgan:

quote:

Posted by GeoModder in the Conference hall

Therefore I like to ask the leaders of both factions if they can find themself in an unconditional truce or peace treaty without the need for repayments or whatever. Just let the past where it belongs and try to start with a clean slate.

Our position?

(My guess is that we'll hold out for at elast payment that were interrupted, and a renewal of the "profit-sharing" plam)

Got spare money?

My standing point is simple: Morgan should cash in all due payments for past treaties, and give back that 50 credits they stole (the cash for the Probe that never officially existed). I would try giving them a specific number based on that (plus 50, to have a negotiation point, maybe...).

We got the upper hand so remain firm on a repayment. But I'm not sure if the morgans are willing to pay 400 even if they've got the money... thats alot of credits.

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

How about we drop the 50 ECs for the destroyed probe and just have them pay us the EthCalc balance in full. That way we can "start from scratch" diplomatically without any past agreements hanging over both of our heads. We could argue that this would be good for us both, as it would make future diplomacy between the Spartans and the Morganites more straightforward and not hinging on past agreements or transgression. We could say, if you are willing to pay up the EthCalc balance in full immediately, we are willing to start over with a blank slate with you diplomatically and forget all of the stuff about the 50 ECs for the probe, the mind-controlling of the Hunter, etc.

So if I understand correctly, we ask simply for 98 credits (40 remaining for the tech trades and the 50 that they withheld from tech trade payments for the destroyed probe)?

How about :

quote:

In principle, the Federation is willing to consider dealing with the Corporation from a fresh perspective, but first we must insist that due payments unlawfully withheld be repaid immediately.

We refer, of course, to the 48 credits' suspended payments for Ethical Calculus, and the 50 credits that were unilaterally deducted from due payments by the Corporation

If, in this 2169 year the Corporation can make restitution of these basic amounts, then the Federation will be open to negotiation regarding other real or perceived past injustices - on both sides.

Without this clearing of the initial debt, however, the Junta struggles to see how a fresh start could be possible.

I say . Judging by their attitude in the conference thread, they are not going to pay one bit anyway.

It is worth noting that the Angels are helping Morgan, not us, with GeoModder's attitude. Some ally we have there...

Message is good for me.

The Corporation put a truce in the diplobox in-game. Shall we put in minus 98 credits ourselves and press accept already?

Also, should we send a message approving their decision not to build any more offensive non-SAM needlejets? Something like:

We see you have refrained from building more offensive non-SAM needlejets, and have kept at producing fighters. We appreciate this decision and hope you will continue with it, as it makes a permanent peace far more viable. Now we do not feel threatened and don't have to both engage in an arms race. As economists familiar with Game Theory, I'm sure you'd agree an arms race is good for neither of us.

Here's my amended version:

If, in this next Mission Year - 2170 - the Corporation can make restitution of these basic amounts, then the Federation will be open to negotiation regarding other real or perceived past injustices - on both sides. In addition, the Federation will be prepared to sign a Formal Truce in 2170, such truce to last until such time as differences are resolved, and we can proceed to treaty or even Pact status, or are deemed irreconcilable by both parties, in which case an uneasy truce will continue at the pleasure of the Corporation and the Federation together.

Without this clearing of the initial debt, however, the Junta struggles to see how a fresh start could be possible.

Note, however, that we have honoured the cease fire while this Conference is in session, notwithstanding the undermining of genuine peace efforts by some attendees who have been active in ensuring the widespread proliferation of Air Power throughout Chiron

Suckers.

I am happy to see that bullying did work after all. Remember we were aiming for a straight peace as the main goal? This is just great.

EDIT: What about the Gaian offer? Do we accept? Do we ask they allow us to cross the choke point at any time?

Good point.

I'd insist on rights of passage as a precursor to peace - after all, it was their blockade that started the war with them anyway (at least, that's part of our official reason - that and their Pact with the Morgan faction)

Oh, too, and the fact that we were itching to bully someone .....

But the right to sail a task force - or probe - to Yang's southern course should be ours without asking

Wooho! I think the fact that we're spartans and the connotations that go with being a militaristic faction has both the money grubbers and the tree huggers shaking in their boots.

Of course we also killed their captial city but thats minor compared to the percieved might of the Spartan Federation.
Bullying is awsome! Now lets come up with a reason to force the seabase near that gaian chokepoint
