Say it aint so, Arnold... Put an end to popups!

Just saw a quote on Scarborough Country (MSNBC) (I'm repeating here as I try to remember it) of Arnold Schwarzeneggar - "The Guvonater" - explaining his idea of menstrual cycles. He said if the moon didn't exist, PMS wouldn't exist and women would stop bi!ching and whining.

Scarborough opened his show with it and his reaction was telling as he quoted Arnold... amused and angered at the same time.

What's the misguided logic behind the statement, anyone know?

Btw I'm sure (hope) he was joking, though I doubt many of his constituants will appreciate it.

oh yeah, I forgot Scarborough's commentary, nice way to alienate 50% of the voters Arnold. The quote comes from Arnold's appearance on the Howard Stern Show.

Menstrual cycles tied to a lunar cycle in some way. Not sure if it is misguided. Yup, joking like that aint smart though.

Suffering from ads?

anything with a cycle closely matching lunar movement is evidence of some effect, like tides. Maybe longtime exposure to slight variations in gravity or moonlight effects people as it does for some other lifeforms we can see out there.

Whatever the cause, full moons do seem to have some effect. Fireman, paramedics and police officers in particular will confirm that the full moon seems to bring out strange behavior in people. Staff in psychiatric hospitals have also observed changes in the behavior of their patients during the full moon phase.

That's a myth. It's statistically untrue. It's just that we pay more attention to weirdness during the full moon. Remember, 40% of all sick days are taken on Mondays and Fridays.

I assumed as much. Only a very confidant or very stupid politician would risk alienating such a large group of voters.

Why would they all have to have the same periods? If evolution is factual, it could be something from b/millions of years ago and all life reacts to both the sun and moon. Maybe its in our DNA and depends on where we evolved. What if a young girl with an established menstrual cycle moved to the other side of the planet, how many years, decades, centuries, etc would it take for her/their menstrual cycles to change (if at all)? There are lifeforms we can identify that have cycles closely related to lunar cycles (like moonlight), so why not everything else?

That is generally true. What is interesting, however, is that similar studies into the phenomenon show that people who take Mondays and Fridays off more often than Tueday-Thursday are more likely to be alcoholics.

I actually wrote a memo about that fact, telling our employees that it was unacceptable. Despite the fact that the memo was released and prominantly dated "APRIL 1st", my stepmother called an emergency HR meeting to discuss my findings - then she signed off on the memo!

Joke was on me, I guess. Somewhat.
