Post-Poly/Alliance Research Tired of ads?

I've shut down research for 2430 BC. However, it'll only take us this one turn to get from our 5 gold pittance to 25 gold, decent savings when we don't have any real costs on the horizon. What should we go for next?

If other civs already have literature, that would seem to leave Maths (if we can't get them from DR) or Code of Laws.

I say hold off until I see what I can arrange with DR. My guess is that they suspect something is up.

Also, if AM has literature, we may be able to do a deal.

I would like to get maths so we can get started on currency or contsruction.

I'm thinking we should continue the beeline to Monarchy

We're religious and so we would benifit from leaving despotism early.

Interesting thought jon.

Now - if we can get maths from A-M, we could do one of currency or construction and hope to exchange that for CoL and Republic down the road.

But Monarchy would work as well, and remove our fear of a despotic GA.

I guess it's time to revive the Monarchy vs. Republic debate.

I'm not so skeptical of Monarchy as I was before, since it would seem BOH and others are creating a bloodthirsty world before we all even have cores filled out. Plus we don't seem to have more than two native luxuries in sight, which means only pop 3 is free, leaving us with only pop 4 once a temple is built. Not good; I don't think we can set up a Republic based on that sort of non-extravagant society.

So, I think Monarchy would actually work out well. We should make sure there aren't others going for it though.

Edit: One more thing... with Math, all we need is Currency and Construction. Assuming someone researches whichever we don't go for, we have the next era right there. There's a chance our free tech would be Feudalism, and if it isn't, we can research it. That would make an even better government in the short-term, due to the 5-unit-per-town support. So really, Feudalism is just an extra tech away as I see it. So scratch what I just said. I think we should get to the next era, and Feudalism, ASAP.

Further edit: I forgot CoL. But if we line up deals with two other teams to get these three techs done simultaneously, it can still work out.

Hmmm - interesting. And makes sense.

If we can get math from A-M, currency from DR, that leaves CoL and Construction.

We could have Construction in 20 turns at full-bore (-3 gpt at the moment) research. Sound good to you guys? Who's for, who's against? I'll set it to Con next turn so long as there's a majority.

Full PM-box? Change here!

Go for Monarchy. It can be our strength right now --> better food; better trade. Others will do the other paths.

Hm - tough call. But I do like your feudalism idea Koreep. So yes - plough through construction.

Monarchy and the chance at the hanging gardens would be nice.

btw - does anyone recall what we said about the Statue of Zeus for this game. If it is buildable, that could be the reason that DR was reluctant to trade maths. And maybe, a reason we should not immediately trade it to BoH or Euphorica. We do not want them to get Zeus (if it is allowed in theis game.)

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

I definitely don't want BOH getting their hands on SoZ. Ideally no one will, but that's doubtful with ivory so widely distributed. Let's just hope no one builds it early enough for it to reach its full power.

BFM: Feudalism provides just as good food, and in our current position, would likely bring no military costs as opposed to likely incurring some in Monarchy. Monarchy might be the way to go long-term, but for the moment, I think we should make use of our Religious trait and use Feudalism as a stepping-stone. (Feudalism should really be renamed "Good Despotism" )

Um, Monarchy is adviable much, much sooner than Fedualism.

Monarchy is a possible steping stone to Fedualism, not the reverse.
