Winston, I really don't want to break the rules. The Iraqi Children thread, the Hubble thread and the petition thread were all kinda public service stuff. In the hubble thread I didn't say a word, just posted a link. So I asked for a break in the Iraqi Children thread and didn't get it. Anyway, there were three threads, that breaks the rules, the Iraqi Children thread was last, and that's that. Life goes on...

I don't understand the home grown part

Nah.. it's just... there are few things that tends to disturbs me, which is make up feel good propaganda. So, you can donate maybe, hey if it does good it does good, right? What's the problem? THAT'T per se is not the problem.

However the problem is that people don't see the real problem, which is that it's nothing more than today's news, morale boost, etc. I would rather NOT take 'soldiers spending their sunday afternoon teaching kids to read and have a better chance'-news as something positive by default. Even if it is genuine.

So there. Then again, if it was up to me, we would never hear these news. Then again, if I was in charge of the media and military, this would be the only news we woudl be hearing .

Exactly. Is it a bad thing to donate money or supplies to this thing? Of course not. Will this help a group of kids in some ways? Sure it helps. Will a lot of people now donate with the heartbreaking stories that made me almost cry every line? Most likely. So what's the problem? I guess we shouldn't think so far, if this helps, it's enough smoochieboochies.

JohnT, face it, someone had to say it. And face it, it has some ounce of truth in it, and if you don't agree, I have a bridge to sell you in New York..

I made a distinction between this helping kids and not being 100% a bad thing, and what it really does more and that being more disturbing and my claim that it was more of the hoped outcome than the actual first that is in the mission statement.
