That's part of the end-game discussion at the UN forum: http://www.cdgroup.org/forums/site/...topic.php?t=303
As it turns out, though, CDG has decided to fight on for two more turns : http://www.cdgroup.org/forums/site/...topic.php?t=306
And, of course, here's my draft newZupdate...
quote: End of Round One - Team Apolyton Moves On!
Team Apolyton of the C3CISDG is proud to annouce that it has survived the first elimination round of the epic clash of the democacy game teams! Ten teams entered two different PBEM games (five in each) representing major websites in the worldwide Civilization community - Civ3 Brazil, CivFanatics Center, Civ3 Duel Zone, Civilzation Gaming Network, and Gamecatcher in one game, and Apolyton, Civilization Design Group (CDG), the People's Army of the Ladder, the Batrachos (French team) and the German Webring Team.
In game 1, Team Apolyton, the Ladderites (PAL), and the Batrachos claimed victory. Apolyton and PAL, in a joint effort, sucessfully invaded and defeated CDG, evicting them from the continent the three shared. Apolyton, PAL, and the Batrachos (themselves on a faraway continent) then joined in alliance, causing the German Webring to concede defeat without a single battle fought. CDG, meanwhile, having escaped to a fleet of galleys, has decided to play on for two more turns to in order to make an interesting point.
Apolyton, PAL, and the Batrachos will survive the first elimination round, now that the other two teams have (almost) been eliminated.
Meanwhile, Game 2 saw a far more interesting military end. The Gamecatcher team was taken out early by an invasion by (insert invader's names...), while the CivFanatic team went down after it too was invaded by (insert invader's names...). The Civ3 Duel Zone, Civ3 Brazil, and CGN also move on the final round.
This is where we leave off today - the battle royale of the six survivors is coming, in a game that will mark one of the final triumphant hurrahs of Civilization 3, as Civ4's release comes closer. Team Apolyton is always looking for new members to join the battle - sign up today, and take part in Apolyton's fight to be the best! |
I'll invite our new members to fill us in on the Game 2. I really don't know how anything turned out over there in much detail.

GCA was taken out by both CDZ and CGN (à la CDG in this game). They then built a massive invasion fleet of Gallic swords and mounted warriors and met up with us; negotiations didn't go too well. Meanwhile, CFC's alliance with C3B broke down following the Joker incident. After they continued to treat us unfairly, we declared war upon C3B. CDZ and CGN decided to join up with C3B. Thus, with our army marching to C3B, we were at the mercy of 80+ enemy units. I have nothing against CDZ nor CGN; they planned out an impressive invasion and took us out magnificently. However, seeing C3B victorious isn't my cup of tea. Let's hope we don't start next to them in the finals...

Well, I know that they might pull a pi radians and become our greatest friend. But my gut is telling me to dread the day we see their green borders on the horizon. I'm curious if any other CFCer feels this?

Second version, now with spelling errors corrected.

The UN Forum is always a good place to stop by for more information, as well as for some of the current and past public discussion on the various games.

The Joker Incident
This incident was a turning point in our game. One of our members spotted a user on our private forum known as JokerDK. He had signed up for our team, thus he was allowed to view our forums. But he never posted; just voted in polls and read the threads.
However, the member who spotted him analyzed the IP of JokerDK: it was Brazilian. In fact, it was the same exact IP that C3B's former president, Joker, used. We spent a week or so gathering evidence. The game was stopped for the duration; nineteen days after it was all said and done. Unfortunately, my computer died for two months, and everything was over when I came back.
The admins ruled that the two users, JokerDK and C3B's Joker, were in fact the same person. C3B had to endure forced anarchy (I think; I could be wrong) and had to pay us something like 18gpt for twenty turns. After this event, any hopes for reviving the failing alliance were washed away. C3B gained the sympathy of CDZ and CGN, which I think was a main cause of CFC being invaded with the 80+ units, and not C3B.
DZ and CG, please do elaborate and add anything that I forgot and correct anything that I typed.

He was banned from entering either game (yours and ours), and, I believe, from participating in the finals. So we need not worry about "Joker" bothering us in the finals.
However, I'm curious if it's simple to create another account. Does each team check each member's IPs and compare them to each other team's member's IPs? I doubt it.

That was one of the options CFC was considering at the time. Since our only known rival's president had seen our every move, there's no way to prove that he didn't share his secrets, or at least influence his team's policies.
