JohnT, you and I both know, that when your daughter is like 24 or so, we somehow bump into each other in indie rock festival, she's selling flowers and I'm just digging the music and she really digs my bike, and you know, then we get married and your heart will die

A weird factoid. Nevertheless, it is not correct that "all but one ... in the last four years" was a hard core Star Trek fan.

But it is correct to say that, in their experiences at least, there is a strong correlation between pedophilia and Trekkieness.

passing interest != hardcore trekkie. My father has 1 of those videos, I gues that makes him a pedophile.

Also there is the fact that Star Trek is easily recognized, perhaps the police missed other material that was present.

No, in this case it doesn't make trekkies pedophiles. However in this particular case, these pedophiles were also trekkies. There's a difference. It means that in this case, it's more likely that the pedophile is a trekkie, not that a trekkie is a pedophile... of course unless trekkie phenomenon would be small, then it would suggest that, but since it's worldwide, and huge, then it really doesn't.

You're all getting the implication the wrong way. Its not that geeks are paedophiles, it's that paedophiles are all geeks. If it is statistically significant, then I imagine it is more worrying for the paedophile community that for the Trekkie community.

You guys are missing the obvious. The reason the pedophiles all seem to have an interest in Star Trek is simply because a lot of computer literate people(geeks) tend to like Star Trek.

Reading the article the porn traders are very tech savvy, which would include a high percentage of Trekkies.

The only correlation is that both groups are Tech savvy and they will overlap.
