This is the thread for recording all Desolation Row battle reports, together with analysis of the battle, gloating over victories, and commiserating over setbacks (hopefully substantially rarer)

2110BC:

Having replaced the Spear on the hill next to Antioch with a Horseman (to move the Spear to the Iron Hill to cover the Workers), the Euphoricans seized the opportunity and attacked the Horseman with their stack of 3 Archers and a Spear.

They immediately suffered a setback, losing the first Vet Archer to our Horseman, Courtney Love, who suffered no damage. The brave Courtney then went down in a hail of arrows without having the chance to engage her erstwhile lover Kurt in any horsie shenanigans, since Kurt was loafing on the other side of Antioch at the time. The victorious Euphorican Archer was promoted to Elite.

This set the scene for our counterattack, which ensued as follows:

4/4 Horse kills 4/4 Spear, 1/4
4/4 Horse kills 4/4 Archer, 2/4
3/3 Horse kills 4/5 Archer, 3/4
3/3 Horse retreats against 3/3 Archer Kurt, 2/3
3/3 Horse kills 2/3 Archer Kurt, 3/4


Now as any Desolator worth his salt will recognise, the Gods have certainly been on our side in this, our first battle of the Eve of Destruction. To kill a Vet Spear on a Hill with a Horseman is no mean feat, and then to follow it up with 3 Archer kills (all of whom were on Hills) without loss is.....well....fortunate, to say the least. And without labouring the point....we used all 5 of our offensive military units in the counter-attack

In addition, 2 of our Horses were promoted to Veterans for their bravery....helping to protect us against our achilles heel - the possession of only one Barracks

I then emailed both Snoopy and McMeadows with the result of battle, thanking them for the opportunity and the War Happiness (which was non-existent I think, but what the hell )

I declined to report the battle in the Battle Reports thread of the main forum, though you will see the Euphorican entry there if you browse. My view is that we should only post these reports to the affected party, not in public forum.


Now going forward, clearly our immediate priority is to nurse our injured Horsemen back to full health, while continuing to produce more. The Iron will be connected in 2 turns (not 3 as I reported in the other thread), which will enable us to switch our Horse build in Sweet Desolation to an Immortal on the final turn

I remain troubled that the Euphorican military remains strong compared to ours, which indicates they may have a second attack force on its way to our lands, perhaps this time comprising Swordsmen. On the other hand, we may move to average once our Horses return to full health. Nevertheless, we must ensure we are ready for another attack!

Ah, a glorious battle and one which will be remembered with fear and awe by our enemies for generations.
When we get our supply of iron started they will be in for a world of hurt . . . .

Since the initial major battle, several isolated skirmishes have taken place:

1910BC: Euphorican 4/4 Swordsman makes our 4/4 Horse retreat (who had just destroyed their Horse colony), who is then mopped up by another Euphorican 4/4 Swordsman.

1870BC: Our 4/4 Horse kills their 4/4 Warrior camped on the mountain overlooking Invictus just outside our territory.

1790BC: Euphorican 4/4 Horse kills our 3/3 Horse who was scouting too close to their territory.

1750BC Euphorican 4/4 Horse kills our 4/4 Warrior exploring north of their lands - he strayed too close. Their Horse was promoted to 5/5


As you can see, recent skirmishes have not been in our favour

The difficulty with using Horses to pillage territory is that once they have done so they are sitting ducks!

Tally so far:

Desolation Row losses: 3 Horses, 1 Warrior
Euphorican losses: 4 Archers, 1 Spear, 1 Warrior

We have clearly not yet inflicted any real damage upon them - in fact, the tally so far is 110 vs 100 shields - while other civs not at war have not had to suffer from the loss of shields that have been buried alongside our dead warriors

But they haven't met our immortals yet so we shouldn't be too despondent. Once we have a sufficiently large and varied stack of immortals, horses, spearmen, and catapults they will be taking larger casualties than we will. And let's not forget that they no longer have the means to produce horsemen. That is an advantage to us.

1500BC: Our 4/4 Horseman kills a Horde Scout near our territory

1450BC: Horde 4/4 Horseman kills our 4/4 Spearman and razes Sidon

1425BC: Our 4/4 Horseman kills their 1/4 Horseman who razed Sidon

The Euphoricans must have sent all they have at us - or they'd have kept attacking our weakened stack. I make them to have 3 swords, a horse and an archer left.. most of those pretty weak. Wonder how many spears they have. Might be worth firing the cats and attacking - we might get lucky and take beach boys..

I have emailed Paddy accusing them of collusion with Euphorica.

It's ridiculous that Euphorica allowed them to walk into the town of Rolling Stones, when previously they swore not to allow us to take a single town.

I think the chances of us not being the Horde's next target is 0. we should prepare for it..
