After being challenged to a game, Here I am!
I don't know what the standard rules are for these games, so present the rules to me and I can work with them.
The factions I pick, in order, are:
1. Usurpers
2. Free Drones
3. University of Planet
4. Hive
5. Morgan Industries
6. Caretakers
7. Peacekeepers
I list all 7 in case 6 other players want the first 6.
EDIT:
As per below, I pick the Free Drones as my faction.

Point of information: as thread starter you have options on calling the world type and special rules for the map creator.
Additionally, Progenitor factions are typically banned from multiplayer games. It is felt that they are too strong.
Other information that may help is what kind of turn rate or skill level you expect from game participants.

Map:
Using worldbuilder changes,
I make the following:
Large Map
50-70 water
weak erosion
Average NL
Dense Clouds
I tweak it a bit,
to add land paths and remove the jungle.
(map attached)
Transcend of course
All Victories except Co-operative
Do or Die
Bell curve
Factions can be repeated as needed.

Turn Rate Needed:
You must be At your keyboard for such time to play the keyboard at least -once- in 24 hours.
You must also be at your keyboard frequently during the weekends while the game starts up -
Once I get play-times, I can arrange a time where people can rapidly play the initial turns.
I game on GMT + 10, from (local) 9am - 9pm on weekends,
and from 6pm - 8pm on other days (this can change as needed)
My gaming times, in GMT, are thus:
11pm Friday - 11am Saturday
11pm Saturday - 11am Sunday
and 8am-10am for Monday-Friday.
Skill Needed:
No specific skill is needed to play,
but being able to beat the AI on transcend will help.

Are you going to pick a faction, or just increase your postcount?

Yeah, um, you need to have a CMN create a map. IF you're playing, you're not exactly an impartial arbiter, and it's certainly not fair for you to know the terrain.
Your entire methodology for creating this multi-player game has been flawed.
1) State which faction you want to play.
2) List map/game settings
3) Find players
4) Find CMN to design a scenario/game to be played.
5) Once per day is the usual (acceptable) turn rate. In the beginning you might get more than that, but even then, some people play multiple games.
6) Given the above, pick your faction, and I'll pick one, we'll find a CMN, and I'll school play you.
Given your "newness" (and brashness) to the forum, I don't think you'll find many players interested in a large multiplayer game (with you). There's a pretty good chance you'll drop out. If it's just you and me, then there's no harm done.

I'd very like, but your super fast turnplay request is too much for me.
You see, Im employed person with a family, thus I don't have time to do the turn 10:00-19:00 GMT+2 and 20:00-09:00 GMT+2.
I am also unavailable at weekends.
You might find it weird, but most SMACXers here are pretty close to me in their availability. |
I think bT's comments are spot on! Most of us in this community play when they have the opportunity, and enjoy the finer nuances of the game as much, if not moreso, than they do the basic "pushing the pieces around the board" aspect of the game.
However, as far as Truth in Advertizing is concerned, why TBS Skills is being right up front as far as what he is looking for in a game/ opponent. As far as his challenging attitude is concerned, why I remember when I first came online in 2001 why my sig read "The shortest distance to my objective is through you". I was also a rash, irritating player whose style included purposely trying to get under the skin of my opponents (probably still am, come to think about it.... ). However over time why I came to also enjoy the finer nuances of the game, as well as the intricate diplomacy involved with the various players, and how that changed from game to game. I also began to appreciate very deeply the amount of time people spent teaching me the various aspects of the game, as well as the considerable time spent by CMN setting up those games that I so much enjoyed. Perhaps TBS Skills just needs to take a look around our community, think about what he sees, and decide whether this is really what he wants to get involved in or not.

Open the file attached and stfu.
1) State which faction you want to play.
Free Drones
2) List map/game settings
Map attached,
Native life is Normal,
All Victories except Co-op,
Do or Die = on
Bell Curve = on
Blind Research = off
3) Find players
hence post.
4) Find CMN to design a scenario/game to be played.
If having a random map (without Jungle) is not your desire,
you can bring a scenario or CMN for yourself.
5) Once per day is the usual (acceptable) turn rate.
One M.Y. per day was what I was thinking as well.
6)(trash talkin')
Trash talkin' doesn't increase your odds of winning or losing, but it gives postcount and helps you win the internet!

And I'm 'right up front' in aggroing the stuck-up newbs who think Alpha Centauri is their game, which must be played by their rules with their attitude.
They might be good players, but they sound all grumpy-wumpy, not liking new people and such.
Awww ... does Grumply Wumply Granpa want to kick my ass, but can't because his busy wizzy life doesn't let him on the computer?
Awww ... looks like poor grumply wumply will have to sit at his keyboard and pout that "in the good ol' days, I could've played 100 turns a day and kicked your ass before tea time"

My post wasn't about trash talking to increase my post count, thought I'm sure if I hadn't, you'd have made a comment nonetheless.
1) It's your challenge, you do the work, then players may come to you.
2) The map is not "random." You tweaked it, you admitted to tweaking it, so you know what it looks like and I don't.
3) Random maps aren't really desireable for multi-player. Learned this lesson already, don't feel like I need to play your map to learn it again, let alone finding I'm stranded in the Dunes, while you're in a rainy garland crater.
4) As far as finding the CMN, that's your responsibility, you want the game. I'm mildly interested in the game, willing to play you. If you had examined the existing multiplayer games, I doubt you'd find few, if any, that relied on a random map.
5) The map settings you listed are fine, the random map you tweaked is a dealbreaker. This and the generally poor maps made by the game are reasons for having the CMN.
Trying to put the burden in getting a CMN on my shoulders "doesn't increase your odds of winning or losing, but it gives postcount and helps you win the internet!"

It's the .zip file attached in the 3rd post
You can click on it (and wait 15 seconds) do download the .zip file.
To open it, you'll need to unzip it with a program -
http://www.winzip.com
has a good, free one.
Unzip it to the Maps directory of your Alpha Centrauri game, which defaults to
C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri\maps
You can now use the Load Map File feature from the Scenario menu to view the map.
Be sure to ask for more help if you need it!

Random maps don't generate dunes,
and Garland Crater isn't high enough to generate its own rain (but can become rainy if near a mountain)
quote: 4) As far as finding the CMN, that's your responsibility, you want the game. |
And if I should choose myself to generate a random map, you would not play, because you prefer pre-made maps?
Then that is your choice.
You have the option of bringing your own scenario if you want, though.

Total. Lack. Of. Understanding.
Now who's trash talking? If you truly wanted to test your skills, you'd find a CMN, until you do anything you say only serves to illustrate to the community that you aren't a serious player. The lack of downloads at this point should also illustrate to you, the complete lack of interest in "your scenario."

Umm, yes, random maps do generate the dunes, I see it all the time. Garland Crater can certainly have rainfall, especially if the map is tweaked, which you admitted to doing.
A CMN is needed for a modicum of balance and fairness, so that no player has map knowledge or position advantage over the others. If I start with 3 raining and rolling squares and you start with none, I have a tremendous advantage over you. The fact that you don't know that serves to show us that you don't know the game.
You win, this is my last post until you find a CMN. (It's as simple as asking, you know, but I won't ask for you). Also, in the interest of full disclosure, I'm involved in two private PBEMs and soon to start an Apolyton PBEM. If this one ever gets off, it will be my lowest priority.
