I talked with her on the phone just now, and to my surprise she was actually very receptive and listened to me without yelling or denying the problem. She also said she would try to change her drinking habits. She´s coming over in a few hours so we can talk some more and have a bite to eat before she goes to work. It seems I´m worth a bit of effort after all

I´m now much happier than last night, and the sinking feeling I had in my stomach this morning is gone. Yay!

You could try and suggest she stops drinking altogether for, say, a week, or a month. If she takes that up, you should join her and stop drinking for that period too, if only to show you're with her.

If she can't handle that, she's got a big problem and she'll need professional help.

DrZ, you're such a wonderful sucka, a truly nice guy that deserves better. She just wants to borrow money to buy booze. Watch out for some innocent request not involving her habit.

Both my parents were drunks, I know these things.

Or, to give her credit, maybe her heart is in the right place... Just remember though, booze isn't an easy quit. Keep your head up and observe! Report back!

Honestly, I don´t think it´s alcoholism as such. I checked some sites and she really only qualifies for one of the symptoms. She has trouble controlling her intake when she drinks but that´s about it. It´s just that she´s been in pretty good balance lately and therefore it scares me more when she looses control. Before she had no balance or control whatsoever, and then it was easier to handle if you know what I mean.
