Aside from the fact that at 19" it's not really that portable anymore?

Laptops with screens over 15'' are way to big IMO.

Regarding Tablet PCs: the complete Tablets are something I would never consider buying; the Tablet/Laptops, OTOH, have piqued my interest for some time, although I had quite forgotten about them (I think I'm the Apolytoner Asher referred to previously). This indicates they have not gained widespread usage and popularity, but that does not equate to Tablets being complete garbage.

I have never used one personally, so I do not know how sucky the handwriting is using the pen and screen - perhaps it is so sloppy as to make it impractical for taking notes, writing down equations, etc, (which is why I would want/need one). However, assuming one could write on the screen legibly and with ease, then I would certainly consider buying one. After all, you can get them for ~1300$, which is not absurdly expensive.

Well, if the whole thing is less than 10 kg, I can still transport it from one table to another, every time I move or go to a LAN. That's how I use them laptops

10kg? bleah.

My 6lbs laptop is more than enough to handle basic gaming, which isn't even why I'd want a laptop in the first place.

TVs are big, and thus difficult to move. I am trying to live with minimal stuff, considering that I have had to pack it all and move it about 10 times in the last 5 years.

Nope. I have no DVD driver in the comp. And if I had one, I wouldn't buy a separate device to watch DVDs on the TV. Especially if I had a 19'' screen

It is a TV, I have a TV capture card. It's a PVR...it records TV shows using timetables downloaded from the internet.

It's also a DVD player.

Is it still a niche market?

Bad example. The MP3 player responded to a "need" everyone already had (listening to music), and it expanded on other devices already fulfilling it. It was an evolutionary step. The Tablet PC clearly has some uses, but it doesn't respond to something as universal as listening to music.

I can foresee a future for it, but first their makers would need to educate the average man who already feels overwhelmed by all the technological advances the world offers.

If anything, wouldn't it be easier to use for the average man?

He doesn't even need to type anymore.

You can even talk to people on MSN by handwriting. Or send emails. That should appeal to people like my grandma who valiantly try to use MSN, but with the typing speed it's faster to use pigeons to communicate.

They're incredibly good for stuff like that. My physics teacher has his tablet PC hooked up to a projector and uses it instead of the blackboard.
